This place was unexpectedly more interesting than we anticipated. I thought the kids would be bored, but they had a great time. The looms were shockingly loud and the kids all sat on the floor upstairs to feel the floor shaking with the machines running downstairs, and only a quarter of them are running. We can't even imagine the experience if all the looms were going at once, or if every floor was filled with production. Imagine how much it would feel like an earthquake then! We didn't spend nearly as long as I would have liked reading all the information, but it's a good excuse to go back and catch all the things we missed! The kids are already asking when we can go back.
Very cool! Better to visit on the weekdays as its less busy. If you go after 415pm, the entry fee is free. They have a working mill and some other elements that make it applicable to kids and adults. Doesn't take too long to visit the whole museum, no more than an hour for me - closer to 40 minutes. This is worth going to along with other museums in the area, or as a side activity.
Revisited this place with a friend after 21 years, having originally visited for a 5th grade field trip. Overall it's a great value for people of all ages looking to learn about the industrial revolution, as well as the history of Lowell and the textile industry.
The Boott Cotton Mills Museum provides a historical look at the factory that began in 1835 and would become the centerpiece for much of Lowell's growth in the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century. Well worth a visit.
Love the history here!
A fascinating museum, not just about the creation of the mills and their loud operation, but also the quest for legal and constitutional balance between owners and workers that continues into the 21st century. Truly worth a visit!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot surePrice for adult entry$6–10

An amazing look back at our recent history. How great development and ingenuity let to horrible work conditions and work place injure and illnesses. And because there were woman who stood up and fought we now have OSHA.
