Welcome! This is the official page for Heath Chesney, Hanover Borough 1st Ward Councilman. All materials used and posted are approved/created by candidate.
Originally from Sykesville, Maryland, a small town in Carroll County, Heath has spent the majority of his life cultivating a first-hand understanding of the needs and concerns of a small community. Both as a citizen and while watching his father serve as the town fire chief, he learned, early on, the amazing impact one person could make when serving the greater good.
Heath has spent the last 13 years living around Hanover, finally deciding to purchase a home in the borough in 2013. Since then, he and his wife have committed to spending every dollar they need to in Hanover Borough first, believing that a dollar spent within the community is an investment 10 times over. Enjoying the parks with their six-year-old daughter and volunteering for borough events such as the chili cook-off and “Sip n’ Stroll,” to name a few, are the types of things that the family truly enjoys most of all.
While spending so much time within the borough, speaking with borough residents and business owners alike, it occurred to Heath that there was a shift taking place within the borough that many people might not yet have realized: This town was not getting older, it was getting younger! New demands for different services and forms of entertainment were being requested and supported by a much younger crowd than most gave the town credit for. With the increasing presence of young, new families searching out events and places to go, it seemed clear to Heath that the town was on the edge of finding itself all over again.
While initiatives like Main Street Hanover have done a great job of creating new and fun things for the town to do, they simply cannot do it alone. With a young, “outside” perspective, Heath feels that he has an understanding of this new voice for progress, as he himself is a resident with a new family. Through working with existing council members, committees and local business owners, Heath wants to begin to streamline the process to provide the services and quality of life he has been hearing a cry for over the last 13 years.
