If your friend happens to be visiting you and for some reason have to make a police report do not give their name with your address, they will, and I repeat they will, put you on their tax roll and you will have to fight like he$$ to get off of it. Even after you tell them your friend is not a resident.if they don't pay the taxes they send them they will be ever so nice as to garnish your friends payroll and not even tell them they're doing it. TRUST ME. And you can forget asking them for  the Money back they garnish.

This community, from what I can tell, is ideologically conservative. There are some liberal policies such as the public schools' tolerance of the LGBT community, ramped-up anti-bullying measures, and fairly democratic management in the event a student has a bright idea on how the school can be different. However, leave the Tamaqua Area public schools, and the residents range from hardcore conservative to libertarian. Sad to say, though, the libertarians tend to stay quiet or just vote Republican come election time. Government aside, however, the residents are fairly free to hang flags as they wish without much fear of repercussion. And, there are many, many bars.
