I live in Bozeman, at an apartment complex not two minutes walk from downtown. I pay for a parking space at the complex and this usually fulfills any parking needs I might have. However, when road construction tore up the only street leading to this parking lot, I was forced to find another means of parking for however long the construction takes (several weeks, if my luck holds). At first, I thought I'd simply park on the street in front of the complex, alas, overnight parking is prohibited (between the hours of 2am to 7am specifically). I then noticed a marked increase in the amount of overnight parkers at the local bank that adjoins the complex, and thought to myself: "ah! This is where the residents are parking for the interim, I shall join them" once again I was mislead and it landed me a parking citation. I then decided to seek refuge at a public lot, farther than I care to travel simply to get to and from my car in order to get to and from work, but I would make due (or so I thought). Overnight parking is apparently strictly forbidden at any and all public lots, most of which have a two hour parking limit. Since there is no metered parking, few public lots, no overnight parking of any kind (except on neighborhood roads where only one side may be parked on), I am left with but one option: a parking garage, neither conveniently located nor fair in price. And this shall perhaps be my only respite from more parking citations until such time as the road to the parking spot in my complexes lot (which I already pay for) is ready to be traveled once again (and I am guessing I shall be waiting for some time). Overall? It would probably suit you best to make the 20-25 minute walk from Walmart to downtown, as they openly invite people to park overnight, and who knows? You might make friends with some of the nice RV enthusiasts who camp there often. Bozeman appears keen to have their residents driving 18 hours a day, stopping only for a paltry two hour break before promptly leaving, which I wish I could do.
