I started going to this practice many years ago because my wife and 4 generations of her family have been patients for over 20 years. Two days ago I woke up with my eye swollen shut and in pain. I called the office to get an appointment and at first was told that I could not be seen until the next day. A little while later Liz, their office manager, called me back and told me they could take me at 10:00 am because they had a cancellation. It was now 9:00 am. My wife was with my sick child at her pediatrician's office. She left there to drive me to Dr. Brown but had to reschedule my daughter's appointment for later on that afternoon. Our insurance requires a referral. I already had my PCPs office working on it. When we arrived for the appointment they had not yet received my referral. I called back my PCP and was promised they would send the referral but could not send it until noon because the person that does the referral was not in yet. They promised the doctors would receive it by noon. When I explained this to Liz she told me my only option was to reschedule because you are not allowed to see the doctor unless you have a referral in hand even in the case of an emergency. I stood there in front of them with my eye swollen shut and was turned away. My wife called Liz from the parking lot and explained to her that she has been a patient for 15 years and 4 generations of her family were also patients. She explained this is the office policy. My wife stated that they would receive the referral by noon but she did not care. She then said to come back at 4:00 pm. My wife stated that she could not come back at 4 pm because our daughter was sick and she left the pediatrician to come here. She stated we had an appointment with the pediatrician that afternoon and would not make it back in time. Liz rudely responded "that's not my problem". My wife called back a few minutes later and asked to speak to the doctor and Liz refused. She stated that the doctors don't get involved in these issues but my wife was not calling to complain. She was calling to ask them a medical question about my eye and she told Liz this twice. Liz refused to have a doctor call her. My wife could not believe how she was treated after being a patient for all these years. All these doctors care about is money and could care less how long you have been a patient of theirs and how loyal your family has been to them. We even told Liz we were fine receiving a bill for the services but she refused to let us see the doctor. Two days later my wife had an appointment with my son, which she scheduled a month prior. She spoke to Dr. Stephen Brown about this situation and handed him a three page written complaint about what transpired. Dr. Stephen quickly cut her off and said he already knew about the situation from Liz and said your husband refused to come back. My wife tried to explain why we couldn't come back. He kept interrupting her and wouldn't let her explain. He said he has been burned too many times by insurance companies and since we chose to have a plan that requires a referral its our own fault. My wife stated that she did not have a choice as to which insurance plan we have as this is the only plan our employer offers. Dr. Brown did not care at all about our situation. My wife even told him that she asked Liz about the referral and she said your husband is working on it. Never once did she mention that it had to be in their hand prior to the appointment. Not to mention, she called us at 9 to come in for a 10:00 appointment. That doesn't give anyone much time to have a referral done. We received the referral at noon as promised and I was seen by another practice that I have never before been to. I was taken in immediately, had no wait time and no attitude. My wife is deeply upset since she has been going to the Browns for most of her life. She cannot believe the way the doctor reacted to her genuine complaint. They may have started off as a nice family practice but their policies prove that all they care about is money!!

We have been patients here for about 10 yrs now and we like Dr. Christopher but unfortunately we are leaving this practice because the office management is just not good. We've waited for over an hour for every appointment we've had in the last two years. It keeps getting worse, not better.

Love this office! The doctor is awesome and seems genuinely happy to work here. Three years after my Lasik I am still happy with my improved eyesight. When I started having floaters and called to ask about them, the doctor returned my call almost right away and went over all of my concerns. The staff is fine and the wait time is normal. One of the administrators did come off as gruff and condescending, but I am there to visit the doctor, not her.

Wait is over 1 hour 30 minutes minimum even for a yearly eye exam but I trust the doctor & I am extremely nervous about seeing a good eye doctor who I trust. I had an emergency eye injury in 2013 & Dr.Brown came in on the weekend to help me within 2-3 hours. It was a life saver & the worst pain of my entire life. My eye recovered (even though I wish I were perscribed painkillers as the pain was hell on earth I survived....) I am grateful that he acted quickly for my emergency. However parking is horrible, the wait times are horrible, & i actually got stuck in the building elevator as the elevator got stuck between floors. I give dr brown a 5/5 but the other conditions a 1/5.

I've been with Brown Eye Care in Teaneck for more ten years now and I have nothing to say but praise and commendation about them all, without exception, doctors, technicians and front office staff. I am glad that I came to know them, very satisfied with the service I am getting from them and, most importantly, I have no worries about the health of my eyes, bearing in mind that I am diabetic for almost twenty years. I am short of words to thank you Brown Eye Care 😊
