I enjoy a couple weeks here every couple years.  The owner is a great class leader and the equipment works.  It is much less expensive than other local gyms, they do have a steam room that works most of the time, and their free trial is recommended by me to everyone!  Family friendly but there was one parental child abductor that was working the front desk a couple years ago.

I don't live in Ojai, but I have cousins who live in Ojai and everytime I am in Ojai I stop at Bryant Gym for a day or few days exercise. The gym is clean and the employees are great. Nice gym. I recommend this gym for locals and visitors.

Found out by chance when shooting the breeze at work that a co-worker and I signed up the same week, for the same time period of membership, only he says that 'no I did not have to pay the $50 one time fee' for new members, something about a trial membership/promotion.  Both of us where charged/signed up by the same person, Douglas/Doug the 'brother of the owner' as told to me by Doug. When I asked Doug about the $50 he said that he assesses each situation and that each time it is different.  Then, I quote, he told me "life is not fair and the sooner you learn that the better off you will be" so I thanked him for being frank and left the premises.  Ojai is a small town so we have few choices to go to plus this gym is reasonably priced when compared to the other main choice, a much more expensive club.  This is a no frills type gym where it seems most people go here to work out in a serious way, a good thing. Of coarse none of this really makes me feel any better about the situation and the response I received.  Unlikely to renew once my membership ends.
