The Buhl Fire Department provides fire and EMS services to our service area. We cover 102 Square miles with an approx. population of 9500
The Buhl Fire Department provides fire suppression, extrication, and rescue services as well as public education to the citizens our service area. The EMS division provides basic life support (non-transport) to the same area. We have mutual aid agreements with all of our surrounding departments; as well as, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Idaho Department of Lands (IDL).
Rules of Open Burning
The following items must be addressed in order to secure a permit:
• Notification. Notification of the Fire Department prior to commencement of open burning.
• Material Restrictions. See Department of Environmental Quality Regulations. (General restrictions cover items such as tires, twine, asphalt shingles, treated wood, old buildings, insulated wire, etc. It is usually permissible to burn tree limbs, grass, weeds, etc.)
• Time & Atmospheric Conditions. Open Burning shall only be conducted during the times and atmospheric conditions as set by the Fire Department. (Times: 7:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m. with the exception of June 1st to October 1st, times are 7:00 a.m. to 12 noon) (Wind: Less than 10 MPH)
• Location. No open burning shall be conducted within 25 feet of any structure or other combustible material.
• Attendance. All open burning shall be attended at all times by a competent adult
knowledgeable in the methods of extinguishment.
• Fire-Extinguishing Equipment. A garden hose connected to a water supply or other approved fire-extinguishing equipment shall be readily available for use at open burning sites.
• Discontinuance. The Chief or his representative is authorized to require that open
burning be immediately discontinued if it is determined that smoke emissions are
offensive or dangerous conditions exist.
Failure to comply with these rules may result in citation under IFC 109.2.3 (prosecution)
To obtain an open burning permit, call 543-5664. If the station is not staffed at the time of your call you may log your permit (if you comply with the stated provisions) by following the voice mail prompts for burning permits. Listen to the message and leave the requested information.
Always check prior to lighting your burn, burning may not be allowed due to weather conditions.
