We went to Butano state park on a hot day, Bay Area weather was crossing 107 degrees but there its about 20 degrees cooler inside than it is outside of the trees protection. It turns a crappy hot, sweaty day into a day that you can actually enjoy and do some redwood exploring. 
I must say, I didn't know what to expect from the hikes, but they were really nice. We spotted over many Banana Slugs and it was awesome.

Beautiful redwood park with good camping spots.  We enjoyed site 8 while kids liked the big tree of site 7 which was more sloped

Lovely hiking amongst Douglas Firs, it is close to the ocean so a cooler hike.  Didn't have any views on the trail I hiked.  Nice little visitor center.  Yucky toilets.

Took my family here for a camping trip. Great campsites, thought a little small for an 8-person tent. The campsites are well maintained. There are a few short hiking trails through camp. Very close to the beach and to Pescadero - which has a great little deli.

Butano State Park in Pescadero, CA is a nice park with great hiking trails, where one can hike up to 16+ miles, or as little as very short hikes. Most of the trails are under tree cover and being on the ocean side of the Santa Cruz mountains, cooler on hot days.
There’s an abandoned air strip on top of the climb, and the Ano Nuevo trail, going west before turning back east, provides a tough, steep, climb! The Candelabra Tree can be reached via the, you guessed it, the Candelabra Trail, and it’s a sight to see!
