About

Home of the New Orleans favorite buttermilk drop!

Story

Did you know, that the idea for Buttermilk Drop Bakery existed long before they opened their doors? The seed was planted with the opening of Canal Street Bakery and Deli in 2001, but development was shortly put on hold with the impact of hurricane Katrina in 2005. A few years later, the owners of the original bakery came together in collaboration with baker Dwight Henry to bring a new twist to an old favorite pastry, the buttermilk drop. After the recipe was perfected, owners named Henry as their head baker and opened the doors of the Buttermilk Drop Bakery located in the historical neighborhood of Treme in 2008. Since then, the Buttermilk Drop Bakery has received many accolades for its perfected renditions of classic baked goods including their award winning king cakes, melt in your mouth donuts, and of course the buttermilk drop. Due to such a high demand for these addicting treats, owners of the bakery have embarked on the endeavor of expanding their business and will be opening a new location on Elysian Fields in the coming months.

This morning's experience was horrible. I have visited many times before and service wonderful but today was the worst. Piss poor service and absolutely no customer service skills and major attitude. I aim to support black owned businesses but why when the staff makes you feel like they're doing you a favor to spend your money. Never a compliant about the food and its quality... Excellent as always... Not saying I will never return but definitely taking a hiatus

I couldn't give this more stars but I would. The buttermilk drops are AMAZING. It's off the usual touristy track but absolutely worth it! They're fluffy and not dry at all even though they're fried. Trade in those hit-and-miss beignets in the french quarter for these homey delicious morsels. They have daily specials for breakfasts too! The french toast is very tasty.
