Got a speeding ticket. The CHP officer demonstrated politeness and curtesy. Directly after the stop as I drove on a small pickup truck went by me at what I estimate at 100 mph or more through a narrow stretch of Hwy101. Cones were out. The officer ( I assume was the same person that wrote my ticket) put on his lights and made chase. The truck did not stop and the two vehicles disappeared into the distance. At that point I appreciated the polite encounter we had. It seems officer B. Waluen , ( if I read the print on the ticket correctly) id 18074 must be prepared to deal with the worst of people while maintaining professional demeanor. As far as my ticket, he was merely the messenger.

Garberville Hwy Patrol: We love the highway patrol. Last night, we hit a free falling rock from the cliffs and sustained a flat tire in the middle of nowhere, black as pitch, 5 miles from Leggett. Hwy patrol officers Tammy and Nick pulled over to our disabled car, checked us out and stayed with us until the tow truck/tire fixer came to us in an hour. We were so grateful, 3 women (2 daughters and an aging mother). We had been to SF to the UCSF Medical Center to obtain help for me, the mother, for an ancient ankle fracture and were tired and ready to be home, then the flat-tire. Thanks to these helpful officers who changed our whole helpless feeling to one of optimism. Pat Hafner
