The staff members of Callahan-Edfast will guide your family in creating a meaningful ceremony to honor the life and memory of a loved one.
We have years of experience caring for families, from all walks of life. Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession, dedicated to excellence in service, and have the highest integrity.
Our History
Callahan-Edfast Mortuary was founded in 1910 by T.F. Callahan. First known as the Younker-Callahan Funeral Home, Mr. Callahan bought out his partner in 1914 and retired 30 years later in 1944.
His son, William J. and daughter Virginia Stevenson bought the business and in 1956 joined with Weston Edfast to build a new funeral home near Sherwood Park. In 1990, Michael W. and Nikki Blackburn bought the business. They built a new facility in 1997 on Patterson Road where we continue to operate.
Mike and Nikki have nurtured Callahan-Edfast into the largest funeral facility in Mesa County and continue the fine tradition of service and attention to quality that has hallmarked the company for almost a century.
Rick Allnutt and Susan Hughes purchased the business in January 2012 and now actively carry on the 100 year old tradition of serving the Grand Junction and surrounding communities.
Connecting People Through Life Through Loss
A ceremony can be anything you wish it to be: simple or elaborate, traditional or unique. No matter how it's tailored, such a ceremony is an important step in recovering from loss.
OUR MISSION
The mission of Callahan-Edfast is to preserve our legacy of family serving families by providing compassionate, exemplary service that is built on generations of giving back, quality ethical service, and genuinely felt care, improving our service experience with each generation.
Funerals as Unique as Your Life
Life is full of opportunities to show someone we love them. One such opportunity is the funeral or memorial service. Such a loving event celebrates the choices they made, the relationship you shared, and honors the memory of your loved one.
Honoring Life
It's important to take the time to acknowledge the uniqueness of the deceased: the individuality of their personality, and the uniqueness of their life's path. Not just for them, but for you; it affirms the relationship, and leads to healing after loss. Honoring their life is truly an act of love – for the both of you.
Designing Your Funeral
Taking the time to design your service is a loving act, and not a difficult one. We invite you to explore the seemingly infinite number of ways to celebrate and honor a life.
Funeral Services
It's often seen as easier not to have a memorial service or funeral, and it's certainly seen as a less expensive alternative. But we're here to say this: an easy, cheaper path is not always better one. Grief experts all agree: a ceremony is an important part of the healing process.
Honoring Veterans
At Callahan-Edfast we are eternally indebted to our military veterans who courageously serve our nation and protect our freedom. We honor our veterans by assisting their families with obtaining all veterans' benefits, Social Security benefits and life insurance benefits.
We server all of Western Colorado.
