Was given Kathleen Flynn's name by our attorney. Called and setup an appointment explaining our intent (we also had a referral from Merrill Lynch to a firm in Ft Myers). We live in Cape Coral so Caloosehatche Tax & Financial are close. Showed up for the meeting and were asked if we were told about the $75 consulting fee for the visit. Certainly different experience than our meeting yesterday. Caloosehatche Tax & Financial should rethink their approach to attracting new customers.

I had used this office to prepare my taxes for about 6 years and was always under the impression that everything was on the up and up. That was until I was audited by the IRS over a year ago. I called Mr Swan who at the time was the man doing my taxes at this office. He told me that he would get in contract with the IRS and would make sure that everything was well taken care of. I contacted him periodically for updates on my case and he always told me that he'd "just got off the phone wit the IRS and everything looked good." I was naturally relieved to hear this and was convinced I was in good hands. He told me that my tax debt of about 30K was a mistake on the IRS's part and my total amount owed was 1100 bucks. I contacted the IRS happily to make this payment and get beyond this. The IRS informed me that Mr Swan had never been in contact with them and that he wasn't on the list of approved CPA's that could even be allowed to contact them in reference to my taxes. Thinking there was some sort of mistake I sent many emails and called Calooseatche Tax and Financial about this and once I told them what the IRS had told me, they said they would look into it and to call them back the next day. after that my calls went straight to voice mail an none of my emails were ever returned. I did manage to get a hold of them if I used a phone number that was not my usual cell phone, they'd give a few excuses and tell me they'd call right back after they called the IRS. Of course by then, I'd realized they were a fly by night outfit and not to expect any help from them. I had done what I should have done at the very begining and instead of looking at a few yelp and google reviews, I looked deeper at the BBB and some .gov sites that had legal cases involving this company involving cheap frauds and other legal actions against Caloosehatche Tax and Financial that showed they were just a pair of con men that have been plying their trade for awhile. What I found out from the law office I hired after I discovered them to be frauds was that they were not submitting the information I was giving them and instead they were adding deductions and exemptions I did not qualify for without my direction of knowledge, they then E filed my taxes without sending me a hard copy but said " If you ever need a copy we will happily send you one." When I requested my records from them, they in normal fashion did not respond to my emails, or calls. I see several positive review on here from people that were just like me... They took their taxes to a CPA for ease and peace of mind that a professional was looking out for their best interests. As long as any of these tax returned don't get randomly selected to be audited they will go on thinking everything was done in good faith. But if they do get a packet from the IRS demanding money is owed, don't think for a second this office will lift a finger in your behalf.

Lawrence and Ron are first-rate CPAs in the greater Cape Coral / Ft. Myers area. I don't hesitate to refer any small business owners or individual tax payers there. Great service all-around!
