This organization is an off-shoot of Chuck Smith’s Calvary Chapel movement in Costa Mesa, California. It changed its name from “chapel” to “church” for reasons that vary depending on what member you ask. (One member told me it was because they were getting too many phone calls for weddings?? The real reason may be to distance themselves from Smith’s organization.) Its doctrinal roots are Pentecostal/Charismatic which are unmistakably obvious from the pulpit. As expected, in true Pentecostal form, the emphasis is on emotions, the Holy Spirit, sign gifts and a myopic biblical hermeneutics. The gospel presentation here is very weak and is often bottled as “surrender”. Doctrinal inquiries to the leadership are usually ignored. They are active on local radio in their efforts to proselytize.

Uncompromising love for Gods word! Pastor Jeremy's teaching is refreshingly practical, straight from scripture, chapter by chapter verse by verse. Everyone is very loving and compassionate. The more I attend the more I fall in love with Jesus and with his Church!

We've been attending Calvary Community Church for awhile now. The people are loving and friendly and the Bible teaching is spot on.Pastor Jeremy and others have walked with us through several difficult trials.

I have been attending Calvary Chapel services for some time now, and I would have to say that one of things I really enjoy is the love the congregation has for one another and for God. The doctrine is sound and in line with what scriptures teaches, and their worship team is awesome especially for a smaller church here in the Cedar Rapids area. I find that they are a true blessing to the community and highly recommend checking them out to see what God is doing here in Cedar Rapids. God bless!
