First-time visitors are greeted with the arching beauty of Calvary’s interior, which appears to many as an ideal setting for meditation and worship. The building, begun in 1872, is a notable example of Victorian Gothic revival style. Its stained-glass windows, five of them from the famous studio of L.C. Tiffany, contribute to a conviction that one is stepping into a sacred space when one enters Calvary Church.
Calvary Church today attracts a membership from eight counties of Northern Kentucky and Southern Indiana, all of them participating in an Episcopal Church that ministers to people with distinct and contrasting needs. Our worship services follow the Book of Common Prayer, and we retain the traditions of the Anglican Communion.
Housed in Louisville’s city center, Calvary has a wide variety of outreach programs. We are dedicated to providing comfort and help to those in physical and emotional need. Drawing much of our membership from many of Louisville's neighborhoods and suburbs, we emphasize the teaching of Christianity to all ages. Study programs throughout the church year are designed to help us understand ourselves and to seek ways in which we can better love and serve Jesus Christ.
Many visitors come to Calvary to explore its architectural heritage, others are attracted by the quality of its music. A large segment of our membership consists of persons who first came here under such circumstances, and were then inspired to inquire how Calvary and its programs might further enrich their lives.
So we welcome you. We welcome your inquiries. We invite your friendship and participation in the Calvary community. For an appointment, call the church office.
