Nice place formed by glaciers, as Ice receded dirt and gravel would drop through the ice, which at that point was far above the ground, which creates "kame's". Basically steep mounds formed from above, where hills are pushed up from below. Only youth groups can camp here still, even though it's now been a decade since Kane County purchased it. Still no hot showers or flush toilets for campers, or anything else you'd need to make it a viable camp site. Price is still 25/night for in county, way too high for what they offer. There's still no good way in, you either enter from rt 72, going through old Gilbert's, past the post office and police department, over the tracks and down the old road. Or you have to park off freeman, where's there's only about 10 spots. The Gilbert's entrance is how you get to the drone flying field. You clearly used to be able to get there from powers rd, but that's closed off now. Too bad since that's where the most impressive "kame" is. Clearly used to be a swimming hole as there's an old rope swing hanging from a tree, a concrete base, no idea what it used to be, and some old wood structures that look like obstacles for training courses. Or you can get in from Freeman rd. There's a tiny parking lot here, but no toilets or other facilities. From here you have the longest walk to the camp site area or the kames that are the draw to coming here. Though if you made a reservation I guess the gate would be open here and you could drive right up. All in all its another place in IL that's been abandoned for far too long. I walk around, getting my shoes soaked cause they stopped cutting trails to where I wanna go, probably before I was even born, and I see ruins. I see that this used to be a place where happy memories were made, where people got in touch with nature and matured their primal side. Now? The place is a ruin. It's in ruins. So much could be done here, I wish I'd had the chance to form memories here too. But as of right now, it's just an empty field with an old building on it, what looks like a private residence or two, and a whole lot of wasted potential.

This is park seems very remote, yet is a very convenient location to visit. There are several mowed paths which allow visitors a pleasant walking experience as if they were deep in the isolate woods. Great place for walks, birding or just getting out in nature. Thank you Kane County.
