Our History
The funeral home has quite a history in Kimball dating back to 1886. In the early years the funeral home occupied several different locations in town. In 1948 H.C. Craig purchased the business and Gordon Wisda was the resident manager. On July 13, 1949, S. Gilbert Allen became the licensed manager, assisted by his wife Betty, who was also a licensed funeral director. They purchased the funeral home in 1958. In 1966 they built a new funeral home at it’s current location at 609 S. Walnut Street. On May 25, 1986, after thirty-nine years of service, the Allen’s retired and sold the business to Jim and Kim Cantrell of Calloway, Nebraska. In November 1998, the Cantrell’s sold the funeral home to Rick Allnutt of Ft. Collins, Colorado. The Allnutt family has been in funeral service in Greeley and along the front range of Colorado since 1886. At the time of the purchase from the Cantrell’s, John Berg was the resident manager along with the help of his wife Carol. Keith Jones, a licensed funeral director from Sidney, worked with John on a part-time basis from 2000 until 2005. On February 1, 2005, John retired and Keith and his family moved from Sidney and he assumed management of the firm. Keith currently has twenty-five years experience in funeral service. He and his family continue to enjoy being part of the Kimball community.

A ceremony can be anything you wish it to be: simple or elaborate, traditional or unique. No matter how it's tailored, such a ceremony is an important step in recovering from loss.

Funerals as Unique as Your Life
Life is full of opportunities to show someone we love them. One such opportunity is the funeral or memorial service. Such a loving event celebrates the choices they made, the relationship you shared, and honors the memory of your loved one.
Honoring Life
It's important to take the time to acknowledge the uniqueness of the deceased: the individuality of their personality, and the uniqueness of their life's path. Not just for them, but for you; it affirms the relationship, and leads to healing after loss. Honoring their life is truly an act of love – for the both of you.
Designing Your Funeral
Taking the time to design your service is a loving act, and not a difficult one. We invite you to explore the seemingly infinite number of ways to celebrate and honor a life.
Funeral Services
It's often seen as easier not to have a memorial service or funeral, and it's certainly seen as a less expensive alternative. But we're here to say this: an easy, cheaper path is not always better one. Grief experts all agree: a ceremony is an important part of the healing process.
Honoring Veterans
At Cantrell Funeral Home we are eternally indebted to our military veterans who courageously serve our nation and protect our freedom. We honor our veterans by assisting their families with obtaining all veterans' benefits, Social Security benefits and life insurance benefits.
