Really wonderful place with something for just about everyone. They've really thought this place out well. The rooms are nice and we loved the porch with the rocking chairs and view of the lake. The pool was pretty nice, too. We were also pleasantly surprised at the restaurant selections. We would love to come back for a few more nights and maybe even do some camping and explore the trails more. Wish we could have attended a star party at the observatory. Next time!

Tent camping was nice. Decent campsite, although not a lot of privacy between sites and a tight squeeze to drive into the driveway if the site. It was also close to the road (or highway?) And you could hear the cars going by. The fire pit was square with half covered with a cooking grate which made it hard to start a fire in just the half of the pit. The flush toilets were a bit far from the tent sites, definitely needed to drive there. The restaurant did offer a few Gluten Free options which was nice, but I really hoped for more. They were very nice there. Lake was beautiful! Beautiful scenery on the drive there too. Nice trail walk. Good relaxing weekend and the camp store had most necessities in case you forgot (don't forget marshmallow roasting sticks!).

I have been to the Canyon of the Eagles both to stay as well as just to have dinner at the restaurant. I live locally. Normally everything is exquisite, food great, service great, scenery fantastic. This trip we brought 2 friends in from Austin to dine with us. The service was good, but not great. The waitress kept forgetting one person's orders (mine) and not getting them correct (multiple times!) and repeatedly had to go back, take food back, etc. That was tolerable as the management was making sure everything was OK and things happen... even though there seemed to be as many staff as diners. Why problems then?? What made this trip memorable though was not a positive. We ordered drinks. 3 of them were Margaritas. ANYONE can make a good Margarita in Texas, except it seems, the bartender this night. The drinks were expensive. They were weak as tea. The tequila tasted terrible. The mix was NOT very tasty. The glasses were small and totally full of ice. All in all a terrible way to make our evening special. In the past this was NOT the case here. I may go back for the food (the chicken fried wild boar is excellent), but not for the drinks.

This place would be amazing if the staff was not so crotchety. If you are coming to escape the rat race of the city don't bother. I have not had to follow so many rules since I was in high school. Every time you turn around you are getting scolded. Can't do this can't do that, No fires, no dogs off leash, no golf carts without license plates. I can't wait to leave this place. The jerk that works the observatory drives around on a un licensed golf cart giving campers with golf carts a hard time for not having " licensed golf carts"

The staff was wonderful. The scenery was amazing. There is an outdoor observatory that is open weather permitting that was great! They are not super powerful telescopes, but I was able to see the craters on the moon and the strips on Jupiter! And the gentleman who works up the is very knowledgeable and good with kids. The only reason I give it 4 starts is the rooms weren't quite what I expected. There were chips and small holes in some of the dry wall. And the linens on the bed were slightly gray and had small rips and tears in them, even though the receipt you sign says they will charge you extra if there are any stains or tears when you leave. Other than that the room was clean and the grounds well kept. I was here for a conference, but am considering returning for leisure.
