GORGEOUS. Came to the coast from Portland hoping to hike a different trail only to find it closed in the middle of the season. So, I ventured over to Cape Lookout State Park and am so glad I did. It was crazy busy as it was a Saturday at 10 am. Managed to find a parking spot though when I left the cars were lining the driveway on both sides and extending out to the road, so arriving early is key here. There are 3 trails you can take, varying in intensity and location. I took the upper lookout trail which is around 5 miles round trip. There is also a South trail that takes you below the lookout point. Mostly a wooded hike, the end of the trail places you at the edge of the cape with 180 degree views of the ocean and adjacent coastline. Dog and family friendly, this trail is a must-do when visiting this part of the Oregon coast.

October - Lots of available spaces and and a beautiful empty beach. This park may be crowded in the summer so October is the perfect time to visit. Pros: Peace and quiet. Hot free showers, miles of empty beach, lots of nice vacant campsites, hiking trail to Cape Lookout. Safeway is just 15 minutes away. Cons: Colder nights

Beautifully positioned on the Oregon coast surrounded by trees and beaches. The tent sites are a perfect spot to hang your hat. Water spouts, sink drains, and picnic tables at nearly every site. Lots of close hiking access for short trek or several miles. The dog friendly beach is so much fun for the little four legged companions. Frequent bathrooms, and showers make for a delightful stay.

The Day Use Area is great. There is a large parking area, easy walk to the beach and trails out to the Cape. They now have an easy to use parking system which allows you to use a card versus the old envelope system. The camping area was outstanding. Many, not all, of the campsites, are larger so it does not feel like you are sleeping next to your neighbor's tent. As always the Ranger staff was top notch. An added plus, they just repaved the county road to the Park. Previously the road was rough to drive, now it is a sweet smooth drive to the Park.

We reserved a space to camp with a tent that we brought from home. The spaces were far enough apart you could not hear the person next to you unless you tslked really loud. I loved looking at the stars and walking the beach at low tide and hike on rocks at high tide. Hiking trails. May get some cloudy days in June and some sunny days and is a perfect temperature. I had a nice time with my family of 6.
