CAPTAIN GREGORY'S WILL CANCEL YOUR RESERVATION WITH NO EXPLANATION. I planned a very nice night for my first wedding anniversary with my wife. We made reservations at a restaurant in Old Town to have dinner and made a reservation at Captain Gregory's for afterward. Two hours before dinner I received an email from OpenTable that our reservation for Captain Gregory's was canceled by the restaurant. I didn't see it until we were at dinner too. Someone could have called me since they have my phone number. The email had no explanation about why our reservation was canceled. The speakeasy intentionally has no phone number to call, so I could not contact them. They never responded to my request for an explanation on Twitter. I have no idea what happened that night, but they made my first wedding anniversary shittier than it needed it to be.

Amazing experience. Be prepared to wait a while for your drinks, but you are there for the fun of it, so my best advice is to sit back and relax. They have the usual apps for food and some crafty cocktails, but no main meals. I would eat before coming if possible.

Captain Gregory's is a speakeasy hidden inside of Sugar Shack Donuts. They have craft cocktails and a unique menu that has something for everyone. I highly recommend going there and treating yourself to a unique experience. This is a Hidden Gem in Alexandria. Kyle explained they have a dozen unique cocktails and three that are variations on classics. One includes torching a pine board until charred and placing the glass over it to capture the smokey essence. She served us different suggestions on drinks tailored to our individual tastes. They have a very good and diverse liquor selection, especially on rums. They have a few nice tequilas but not many and they successfully avoided the generic brand names. Some of the Scotches were high end but the specific bottle was different from the mainstream. Think Balvenie, Lag, Talisker Storm? Menu changes with the market and I had nanny octopus that was tender and not rubbery which is a difficult task. Highly recommended I'd toy can find it and get it....

Really cool spot with great cocktails. Make a reservation ahead of time.

Saw this place on Open Table and was attracted to it's reviews. Set up a nice cute date on the eve of my lady friend's birthday but when we got there the place was closed. It's hours said it was open until 1 with food stopping at 12, but I showed up at 11:30 to no prevail. Very embarrassing. I tried calling the place, but they do not answer the phone; had some generated message telling me to just go to the website. I saw a gentleman in the back that was obviously employeed there so I knocked on the window and he just looked at me and walked away. I would never recommend this place due to it's lack of professionalism. Do yourself a favor and find another place. I had an HORRIBLE experience.
