I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Katherine. I could not be more pleased with my experience with Katherine. I went through a very painful divorce over the past two years and she did an excellent job navigating me through the process. While all divorces are unique in some way, most folks are primarily concerned with the separation of finances and child custody. From my first appointment, Katherine efficiently and effectively learned my situation (including unique characteristics) and crafted a plan of action. It is easy to see that Katherine is an experienced attorney and very familiar with the Alexandria City and Fairfax County Court systems. She is very aware of all the emotional pitfalls/arguments that her clients and their soon-to-be ex-spouse can fall into during the divorce process. She does a great job defusing potentially painful and expensive situations through her sage legal advice and interactions with opposing attorneys. As most people know, the divorce process can be very expensive. While the number of issues that cannot be resolved between the divorcing couples will obviously increase the cost of a divorce, Katherine made every effort to efficiently use the hours of work billed. She was able to keep the cost of the entire process several thousand dollars lower than what I was expecting. As for child custody, Katherine worked very effectively with the opposing attorney to ensure my most important desires/demands were codified in the separation/child custody agreement. Although raising a child in a split household is never the best situation, I could not be more pleased with how the final agreement turned out. Katherine was a major factor in this positive child custody outcome. Again, I highly endorse Katherine.

Well, this is not a lawyer you want defending you as she seems to make her own judgements about a situation. Wouldn't be so bad if she was actually right but she tends to be wrong about every single assumption she makes, and actually bills for it. She called me a "stranger" to my own child, she said the mother "didn't want anything to do with me" (when she had initiated a court order against me - figure that logic out), and tried to convince me that it is common for people to take children away from their parents. I think in her small mind, she thought I was the "villain" - that's how she was treating me anyway. If it was up to me, I would have her license revoked as the only thing she kept saying over and over again (as I questioned her on everything she said because it seemed incredibly off ) "I have been a lawyer for 20 years!" 2 months and $5K later I fired her. The only positive was that getting a very good lawyer really made the case much easier and fair. If nothing, I feel sorry for this woman because she is clearly in the wrong profession!

Katherine Carlo was truly professional, and went the extra mile to help out--coming in on an off day to help me get something completed when I was operating under a very short timeframe. I ask a lot of questions, and she answered them all, offering constructive advice on how to proceed. I highly recommend this firm.

Ms Carlo was very helpful to me during my divorce. My situation was, well lets say... complicated. I had a home that was paid for, two children, and lots of marital property to contend with going into my divorce. Ms Carlo impressed me from the first moment I met her. She listened and got all of the facts. She immediately created a plan of action as to how to go about getting what I wanted out of my divorce; separating the issues out, and along the way she never once left me out in the wind. She accounted for time accurately and billed appropriately- giving more than what was expected, when you have those moments when you don't know what to do- then you call your lawyer.... well she was available, with a solution. She is an honest, hard working, ethical family law attorney who will not compromise her ethics nor cast judgement on your situation. I never once heard her opinion about my situation, and I got honest answers- never felt for a moment that her personal views were being casted upon her treatment of navigating the law for me. In fact, if anything I found her an empathetic person who treated me like I was the only client she ever had at that time- something you never find in life! She spoke the truth and from her years of experience- I quickly learned that when you ask your divorce attorney a question many responses begin with- "well in the past, I've seen...." That's what I needed to make informed choices and decisions- her expertise and guidance from hard core factual experience and education. Ms Carlo is an amazing attorney that takes an objective educated view of the situation at hand and even if it is difficult for her, she will tell you facts and truth. My life would be very, very different if I hadn't utilized the skill and talent of Ms Carlo. Many thanks can be given for Katie!
