I love the atmosphere of the restaurant, and it's always a great place to eat. Service is pretty good and there is a wide variety of food options on their menu. Carlos O'Kelly's continues to be a great Iowa City venue.

We arrived and were informed by a staff member in marketing that they were short-staffed and we would be seen by someone soon. She gave us waters and chips and salsa, so the half hour we spent waiting for someone to come to our table was at least spent somewhat satisfying our hunger. But no one came. I made eye contact with at least two different members of the waitstaff and even saw a family that was just seated at a table nearby receive service immediately. We just walked out. We hadn't bought anything. This is absolutely unacceptable. Short-staffed or not, someone dropped the ball here.

it was really just an OK experience.  The queso wasn’t very good, the watrest seemed like it was her first day(never gave us napkins, silverware, asked immediately when we sat down for drink orders, then never asked us again (we had to ask a different waiter)...  but the venu is clean and well decorated.  the wait was short and the staff was nice if not experienced.

Been there twice to give it a fair review...  Interesting industrial decor; but that also makes it noisy.  Lost is the cozy feel of the old Kelly's.  Took about 30 minutes to get served, far too long for basic Mexican food.  Parking is good.  Not enough room in the entry way.  More than 6 people waiting and you have to stand outside or in an entry way.  Might be a nice place to go sometime, but not for now.  The person I was with said that she didn't like it wouldn't be back, same here.  Sorry.

My review is exclusively for the take out service at the new Iowa City location. We have brought food home probably 12 times since it reopened and it has been wrong every time but once. No, I'm not exaggerating. I wish I were. I told my husband tonight that he needs to check the order before he leaves every time because if they screw it up again we are done. Guess what...he didn't check and it was WRONG AGAIN.  We've called and complained and got free meals,  which they also messed up.  The take home service stinks. Maybe slow down or do major retraining.  I wish I could give you less than 1 star. I'm fed up,  but not full,  because I didn't get my order.  Thanks anyway, I'll have toast for supper.
