About

Casa Rio was the first San Antonio business to open its doors to the River and take advantage of the River's setting.

Story

The restaurant founded in 1946 by Alfred F. Beyer, sits on land first granted title in 1777 by the King of Spain. The Spanish Colonial period hacienda became the core of the new business. The cedar door and window lintels, the fireplace, and thick rock walls, are still evident inside the building.

Casa Rio was the first San Antonio business to open its doors to the River and take advantage of the River's setting. Canoes, gondolas, and paddle boats, evolving into tour and dinner boats, began here and helped create the Riverwalk of today.

While on vacation we try to not repeat a restaurant..this one we repeatedly visited. Sooooo good. The street tacos were the only exception, good, but not worth twice. Everything else is worth eating every day. Very affordable. Margarita was good, we got the basic margarita, not top shelf. Chips and salsa are free..many places here are not free chips and salsa. The salsa is fantastic and fresh. Didn't have the 'chain restaurant' feel or taste as the salsa had the slightest change of taste in batches. Planning to come back to San Antonio at least once a year or 2 and will frequently come here as it's a guarantee of good food.

Great ambiance, sitting by the river. Pretty good service. Oh, but the food. If I was just rating this place on the food, I'd have a hard time giving even one star. Our chips were swimming in grease, all of our food was on the overwhelmingly greasy side and the salsa was not even as good as those little packets from fast food places. I may sit there again to enjoy a table by the river and a beer, but I won't be eating there.

We absolutely lucked out and were placed right on the water front. The service was amazingly fast and our waiter Jonathan was wonderful and the food excellent. My only suggestion would be softer chairs or cushions on the existing ones. So lovely. The River Walk is a charming destination.

Had veggie enchilada and quesadilla. Delicious. Saw some of the other dishes and they looked good, too. Generous portions and great environment. Outdoor eating is great. Right on the river, could not ask for better spot. Service was very good too.would def recommend.

Love this place! Great location, and my family and I really enjoy the food. Our service has almost always been top notch. Cleanliness is hard to rate on because I've only ever dined outside which presents some factors outside their control, but it does seem that they do their best to keep the eating areas clean.
