Story

Welcome to the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis! We hope that your visit to this spiritual center of the Archdiocese of Saint Louis will lift your spirit.

Our beautiful mosaics were designed to remind all of us that God reaches into our earthly lives. You will see depictions of a cosmic story: God acting to create and redeem and sanctify humanity, and to welcome us into eternal life.

You will also see people and events that illustrate God’s work in our midst, some right here in Missouri.

Jesus Christ is at the center of this divine-human connection. Here in the Cathedral we gather to worship. In every Mass we enter again into his saving gift of himself, to God and to us. The Chapels also welcome you for quiet personal prayer. May you enjoy your visit and return often. May each visit bring you a blessing.

I visited this amazing place earlier this week. It was absolutely, insanely breathtaking. From the outside to the in, I was in awe. There is a small museum downstairs which displays a little history of the church itself, the mosaic art and the pope. Very enlightening. The guy at the sexton desk was awesome. My 12 year old sister had questions about the catholic faith and he without hesitation gave us a quick history lesson. I learned a lot myself. After mass was over we entered the sanctuary and no words can give it justice. I was brought to absolute tears. The presence was so powerful. You have to experience for yourself. They also have a small gift shop as well. Also, walk around the church outside. They have sculptures and other things worth seeing. Awesome experience!

One of the oldest churches. Such great craftsmanship I think it took over 70 years to build it they are super small tiles I don't know how they put it together. It really needs lots and lots of patients for it. I just loved the place could not take my eyes off it at all. It was spectacular.

My mother and I stopped here after a medical appointment. We saw the dome from the 14th floor of The Center of Advanced Medicine and decided to head your way. Thank you for having open doors for those who want to visit your beautiful cathedral. It was the most beautiful building I've ever been inside. It was so peaceful and magnificent I felt tears come to my eyes. To God be the glory.

Absolutely breathtaking. It is one of the most beautiful Churches in the United States. Built like an ancient castle and covered top to bottom in glass mosaics, this is truly a must see. It is a humbling experience and instantly allows you to feel God's presence. Even if you are not Catholic though, you should still go to appreciate the amazing architecture. There's an interesting museum downstairs that gives further detail on the construction of the church and the mosaics.

This place is stunningly beautiful. Definitely a place to check out even if you aren’t spiritual! Took my breath away. I️t is also cool if you look up some of the history behind it before going in.
