It's a truly beautiful park, there are plenty of hiking trails of various distance/strain levels so no matter how much time or stamina you have there's a trail for you! Also the lake is lovely, and fun to wade in. There are often many different kinds of wild flowers in bloom as well, including fields of Blue Bonnets in the spring. My whole family, including the dog, love this park.

Stayed 3 days, great place and amazing family getaway, you are given a spot but when you go through and don't like your assigned spot you can choose any empty spot you see. Where we camped hardly anyone was around us, and people we did see we're extremely nice even the park rangers. Only reason I give it 4 out 5 is because of the ant problem, they are literally everywhere, will be all over your grill, tent, picnic table, and to my horror even got a million of them that found my kids crumbs on the floorboard in the backseat of my car, if you are really careful and don't leave food out...anywhere....they are manageable at least, but be prepared for them, and my mosquito repellent seemed to work great at keeping them away from certain areas. They never did bite or sting, and to be fair they make it quite clear on the website and have flyers in the office warning about the ants, I really hope they get it worked out it is an amazing place! UPDATE: The ants have now followed me home via my car, I checked today and they are now setting up shop and made 2 nests so far in my front lawn....I hope I don't start seeing them in my house now, when they say invasive species they aren't kidding...

The staff is very nice and it's a very quite and beautiful place to camp but they have a major ant problem, the restrooms smell and have lots of ants and spiders in them, the swimming beach is closed, and all the trails are closed. This park would be at the bottom of my list of parks I have been too. There are much better parks in Texas.

We stayed here on a recent trip up to Dallas and we greatly enjoyed the location. They are doing a lot of construction so once that is done things will be even better but the sites are nice and private and it is a state park that offers 50 amps and sewer hook ups. The location is not as central as you might like but for the price it is nice and close to Dallas. We went into the Deep Ellum area and it only took us 20 minutes which is not bad.

Pretty sad that their swimming beach has been closed since 2015. This is the closest State park to the DFW area. I guess it was more important to fix the driveway from the hwy instead of fixing the swimming area. Then to not have it listed in the alert that the good swimming area is closed because we are supposed to call to see if all the areas are open. We have spent a lot of time here in the past but we will not be back until the swimming area is open.
