Our History - A Time-Tested Tulsa Tradition
Established in 1963, Celebrity Restaurant is a time-tested Tulsa tradition. Due to liquor laws, it began as a private club where members could bring their own bottled spirits. It was a Tulsa hot spot through the 1960s.
In 1984, business boomed again when founder Mike Samara not only supported but contributed to the writing of a bill to legalize liquor by the drink in Oklahoma. After passage in the state legislature, Celebrity Restaurant was issued the state’s first liquor license and opened its doors to the general public.
As the name suggests, celebrities have always flocked to Celebrity Restaurant. Baseball greats Mickey Mantle and Warren Spahn were regulars. Funnymen Bob Hope and Ben Stiller were each guests. Country legend Willie Nelson is a big fan of the fried chicken. And most recently, American Idol winner David Cooke hosted his victory celebration in Celebrity’s private room.
Nearly 50 years after opening Celebrity Restaurant, founder Mike Samara continues to greet guests every evening — ladies with a refined kiss on the cheek and gentlemen with a handshake and his famous smile. Mike says two things have kept him in business for half a century — consistently outstanding food and excellent service.
“Our warm hospitality and top quality menu reminds me of my favorite restaurants in New York. Thankfully, it all adds up to making our restaurant a favorite in Tulsa.
