Central Congregational United Church of Christ

About

Open. Progressive. Christian. Central UCC is a Justice & Peace Seeking, Open & Affirming congregation. Sunday Worship at 8:30am & 11:00am.

Story

Central has been a liberal, progressive Christian church in Atlanta since 1882. As part of the United Church of Christ, we look back to the teachings of Jesus for guidance as we seek to continue to foster the emergence of God’s realm of justice and peace. We are an Open and Affirming church with a Safe Church practice.

Members at Central join with each other as we simultaneously make our journeys as individuals and as a community. Each person is responsible to make their faith “their own”. We recognize that the Love of God calls us to accomplish some things that we cannot do alone.

We are a Christian community where “Heart and Mind meet.” To those efforts, we strive to add our Hand as well.

Mission

Central is a Christian community of faith that works to take the Jesus vision, message, and mission seriously and we struggle to interpret those teachings and apply them to our modern living.

This church is everything I was looking for for years. It’s social justice focus meeting the needs of the local community is just one of the amazing facets of this church. I am so glad I found this church and it’s pastors. They have richly blessed me and my ministry!

It is not a review, it is an opinion of a member with a family and more than 15 years of Membership : The church needs to extend more for the future of diverse growth, through youth, children and family ministry. Let's work for this and come out from childish slogans. I worked with Mother Teresa in Calcutta for almost a decade and she said,"When a Church is busy with movements, it earns nothing, but when a Church serves poorest of the poor, old, needy, abandoned youth or women, it heals it's wounds, by serving others through radiation of love."
