Charles is my go to lawyer. He has helped me out four times. Once for a DUI my wife got, once for a DUI I received. On both those occasions he was awesome. He understands the law and got me the best deal possible, in my humble opinion. Separate from the two DUI cases, I have reached out to Charles twice. Both were interesting legal situations, although not complicated. Both times Charles was more than happy to give me (pro-bono) free advice. I can't express how grateful I am for all the help Charles has given me over the last 15 years. Just knowing he will call me back when I have a legal question, big or small, is a huge relief. I recommend Charles to my friends every chance I get.

Complete Creep. If you want to contribute to his overpriced fee and waste money, go ahead. He severely overcharges. I visited him him for a potential lawyer and was very pushy and made me feel extremely uncomfortable. He's also an ex cop in San Mateo and part of the Corruption. He sympathizes with prosecution so he won't be of use for someone who is a defendant.

A lawyer with a good heart, he sees beyond the external self being but he sees the heart of his client too. His secretary wonderful woman , she was like counselor while I was in the process with my son ! I love them and I'm thankful to them !

My rating of Charles B. Smith as pertaining to my experience is an "F" grade. And if there were a lower grade to give he certainly deserves it. Words can hardly describe my displeasure with Mr. Smith's legal "expertise" in my particular case. He was retained for me by my family in 2005 following my arrest on a domestic violence charge. I understand that I did not help my case by giving a factual statement to police and assuming responsibility for my role in the events that led to my arrest. And I also take into consideration that no case should be considered a "slam dunk" and that the victim had, and continues to have, strong ties to the legal community in the county where the offense occured. However, the fact that there were mitigating circumstances that led up to the incident, no prior record on my part, and only superficial injuries to the victim should have ensured that this case would not be a particularly difficult one. That being said, the years of experience touted by Mr. Smith during the initial consultation with my family were not evident during his work on my case, which ended with a felony conviction and jail time for literally tearing the victim's shirt and minor superficial abrasions. And to add insult to this lack of significant injury, his fees for this service were in the $15,000 range. From my perspective of our meetings leading to the pretrial hearing, Mr. Smith's behavior was more in line with that of someone doing someone else a favor rather than a man who was paid well to provide a service. He was also at times unprofessional. And when I repeatedly refused to agree to an unacceptable plea deal offered by the prosecution, he literally appeared terrified at the prospect of actually having to go to trial. Months later, in a subsequent related hearing regarding professional licensure, I represented myself before the state AG's office rather than hire an attorney and take the chance of a repeat, and I had much more positive results. I have no personal dislike or issue with Mr. Smith. My review is based solely on my personal experiences and is intended to help others when selecting an attorney. It is my opinion based on these experiences that if a person finds him or herself in the unfortunate position of needing legal representation in a criminal case that requires more than negotiating a plea deal, then skip Charles B. Smith. And in my case, he was unable to even do that satisfactorally.
