A few years ago, I approached a tough roadblock in life that caused me to sought out God and reconnect with my long abandoned faith. As an androgynous lesbian, it’s hard to find a church that won’t judge me. After sitting in multiple worships and different churches, I found this one. At the time it was just Sunday worship in a Middle school in West Roxbury. Not only was worship held in a middle school auditorium, without glorious Christian decor, but no one dressed in their Sunday best. The longer I sat in that worship the more I realized this church accepts all, just like how God accepts all, no matter where you are, what you’re dressed… he accept you for who you are. Now the worship that first day, somehow I felt like it was drafted for me. Every word of the sermon and hymn sang, was exactly what I needed to hear. I cried the 75% of the worship. It’s been 4 years, they finally found an appropriate church building. Still minimalistic, but that’s how it should be. Glad I’m still a member here.
We moved to Boston from the UK a year ago. We received a wonderful welcome at CRC and immediately felt it was a church family we could be part of. We enjoy the heart felt worship and bible centered teaching. The youth and children‘s ministries have also been a huge blessing.
My family and I started attending CRC last year during their outdoor services and never left. This church is filled with friendly people who are real and willing to share the ugly stuff about who they are, which gives me the freedom to do the same. It's a very caring and supportive community. It is diverse, with solid biblical teaching, lively heart-felt worship, a strong focus on serving others, and lots of opportunities for people of all ages to connect outside of church. If you're looking for a church in Boston, I highly recommend you check this one out.
I have been attending CRC for the past couple weeks and have absolutely LOVED every second of it!! Kevin and Josh have answered every single one of my questions, and there’s been a lot of them, in great detail. The leaders of CRC pour themselves into both guests and members and focus on discipleship-making. Everyone is so kind and caring and looks after each other!! I’d highly recommend Charles River to anyone looking for a new church home!
I started attending this church about 7 months ago, and it instantly felt like home. The community in this church was so welcoming. They are on fire for Jesus and it shows by the way the love and serve the people of Boston. Coming from Texas the Bible Belt I wasn’t sure what to expect but I felt the Lord more here in this small church that met in a Boston Public school than I ever did in Texas. If you’re in Boston and looking for a church, should definitely give this one a shot.
As a college student, I have found this church to be incredibly awesome. We are often guilty of looking for a church that agrees with where we already stand, rather than a church that agrees wholly with the Bible. Charles River Church is the closest thing I have found to an authentic New Testament church. They strive to love the community and preach the Gospel faithfully. However, if you have never been to church, there is no need to be anxious, for the community is warm and welcoming. Everyone looks out for each other and genuine faith is producing an environment of love. You will find people who are following Christ's command of sacrificial love which is what our world could use a lot more of. This is definitely a place where you will can trust that they will preach the truth even when it is hard to take. If you decide to visit, you can be sure you will leave with more of God's word poured into your life.
I came to Charles River Church along with some friends my first year away at school and felt incredibly welcomed by everyone there. As a college student there are many ways to get involved serving with the church. For example, I've had the privilege of volunteering in the River Kids program during the worship gatherings. I've also had the opportunity to join in on some of the community outreaches like Kids Connect. I also found the church to be very hospitable to the students. They're great about connecting with us, whether it be through hosting us in their homes for lunch or organizing game nights- definitely a caring community.
This was the first church I attended after feeling a pull to thank God for the gifts he has given me. The environment is young and energetic, and there are people of every background and personality for you to find common ground. I had no knowledge of the bible and they set me up with one-on-one learning sessions, weekly worship groups, and invited me to become part of the volunteer team that prepares the church for service every week. I would highly recommend this church for anyone who is looking for a highly supportive, caring and non-judgmental community in which to grow in their faith.
My husband and I visited Charles River Church for the first time this past April, 2013. I grew up in the Boston area and pretty much have visited every protestant nondenominational church there is in the area. Charles River Church stuck out immediately. I would say it is a medium size church filled with people that are genuine and friendly. I liked the fact that we weren't bombarded with people that first visit- we were given the opportunity to take it all in. Most importantly, I appreciated the fact that the church is about the Bible!!! It is solid, sound and a great place to grow.
It is a welcoming place. Everyone takes time to get to know each other. It's a growing church in the community. Everyone around Hyde Park, Roslindale, Mattapan, Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury, and Brookline is encouraged to visit and at the end, making this community of believers your home church.
