I want to make sure people understand when I write this interview that I am not usually one of those "if it's not traditional it's not the best" folks. In the case of Charlie & Jakes, a place I've enjoyed since I was a little kid, I have to make a bit of an exception. I really do miss the tiny little restaurant across the street, and honestly think the food did taste a bit better because they didn't try doing too many things at once. Brisket, for instance, is something they really did not prioritize too much on their old menu because of their amazing work they did with ribs and pork shoulder. I think it may just be an attempt to become more like the 21st century BBQ joint focused on doing a bit of everything rather than focusing on a few select types of meat. That being said. I do love this place and the folks who run it. Anytime I make it home I make sure to visit here as soon as possible to pick up some amazing BBQ that I just cannot find up here in NYC (the curse of this city; amazing food of all types except BBQ). I am glad to see they were able to expand their business and get even bigger. I think their biggest priority should really be focusing on quality as much as possible, and not trying to serve every type and style of BBQ they can think of.

The food wasn’t bad. I’ve had better and I’ve had worse. What really took me by surprise was the chauvinistic environment in the 21st century. Female staff wearing tight shorts and tiny thisrts uniforms showing off half of their asses. Not a family place at all. I am definitely not a feminist but this is another extreme.

It was an amazing experience our waitress was absolutely perfect our food came out super fast it tasted amazing. And coming from Texas this was some pretty dang good bbq for Florida. Very friendly staff if you ever come here ask for Kayla she was a huge help and made the night amazing defiantly will be back for more food and great company and service. Thanks Kayla for being amazing and always had a smile on your face. It made the experience worth the drive.

I am not a barbecue person, I usually avoid it. Went there the other nite and had the smoked chicken, it it exceeded my expectations!. Fell off the bone, delicious and plenty of it!. Good selection of beer, even had some of the local beer brewed here in Melbourne which was a pleasant surprise. I liked the presentation too, meal came on a tray with the sides in little tin cups. Server was great, I will be back. Seriously, I generally don't like barbecue places because the sides are usually all fried something, this meal fit into the healthy category for me. Definitely will be back.

Charlie & Jake's makes awesome Alabama style BBQ and is an awesome alternative to the major barbecue chains. My absolute favorite is the Burnt End Mac n Cheese, but you can't go wrong with standards like the pulled pork, smoked turkey, and a wide variety of sides. They have indoor/outdoor seating options, but parking is limited and a little tight to navigate.
