This is for anyone who is thinking about becoming a student with CPA Ontario. DON'T DO IT. 100% a waste of time. I started out with their prep courses and decided to withdrawal 4 weeks into 2 - 8-week courses. I was required to pay a $600 Annual Student Fee, which is non-refundable. So, I will be getting $150 back per each course. Each course cost $500. I have spent $1300 + HST for the worst courses I have ever taken. They give you access to an online text book and expect you to teach yourself the fundamentals of accounting using it and the questions it provides. When you take a quiz, you are not allowed to see where you went wrong only your mark. If you are thinking about becoming an accountant I would strongly suggest that you do not chose CPA as your "school". Extortion of students at its finest.

I had an exceptionally bad experience with CPA Ontario. About a year ago I was attempting to register as a student and followed all instructions but was given the wrong contact information 3 times by 3 separate individuals. I had just graduated and was travelling through Europe at this point, all while trying to deal with all of this. Being given the wrong contact information prevented me from being able to register for my intended start date, which caused issues for me at the firm I was working for. I then had to pay for BOTH the annual student fee and core 1 on my personal credit card in order for CPA Ontario to register me in time for the next core 1 start date (this was after another 3-4 hours on the phone with various people who couldn't tell me anything). A few weeks after registering I decided not to pursue my CPA designation. This was within the first week of the year, but they refuse to refund me for the $800 annual student fee that I had to PERSONALLY pay for due to CPA Ontario in the first place. I was also sent the wrong link to de-register for the core 1 module, which has resulted in me waiting for a refund for OVER 2 MONTHS. This was on my personal credit card and was of no fault of my own-yet CPA Ontario sees nothing wrong with this. I am very disappointed in the services offered considering the amount students are forced to pay.

- long hold times - long processing times - no communication of changes to policies - always waste your time on hold then direct you to their website, which has too much clutter and not the information students / members care about - outrageous annual fees - outrageous course fees - exams do not match course material and are purposely made to encourage a high fail rate - Program Wise: weak coordination between the experience, course, and relevant CPA programs (PEP, PERT, and PREP) - Experience wise: They do not accurately review experience reports, and just make "Arbitrary Judgements" I've submitted detailed reports..... When you call to inquire you get a clear impression they did not AT ALL read your reports, just looked at how long you worked somewhere and arbitrarily accepted or rejected experiences. - Membership Wise: terrible service, always slow always low quality - horrible costs for each service - no advising and mentorship available - really terrible terrible terrible performance by the CPA extremely disappointed. They do not care about their members, nor their students and are just interested in taking our money without providing any service of value. the most simple requests are made complicated by this organization While other designation bodies help their members development and advancement in the workforce, CPA seems like they really could care less and just want to take our money 1 Star is too much I wish I could give negative stars. Like most people, I've had a horrible experience.

I agree, it seems CPA Ontario is doing favor by speaking to US if we can get them on the phone. Personally i have waited over 3 weeks to get a call back and left 4 voice messages .... Correct 3 weeks to get a reply... Not professional at all.

This organization has done very little to protect the legacy rights of their members. I believe you are better represented through a University program that is more consistent with instructing, programs, testing and grading. Unfortunately, there is a lack of consistency in instructing, course format, testing and grading during the unification when it mattered the most. Results tend to fluctuate greatly from one session to the next. The unification was just another half baked money grab designed to screw the students already enrolled in previous programs. They make it difficult for those who are employed full time and cannot commit to it as a professional student. It's a disgrace that there are more offices in China than we have in Ontario, a province that has the largest number of members. Just another example of a money grab and the high annual fees for an organization that does little to represent our interests.
