I've been going to Cherry Lake since 1976. The camp ground is great if you like campgrounds. It's well maintained, there is trash service, water, bear boxes and vault toilets. They site cost like $23 these days and there are group sites too. I personally don't camp in the campground anymore. I prefer to be away from other campers. Keep in mind, camp grounds can become noisy and crowded. It's the nature of the beast when you concentrate folks. I also like to target shoot so I don't want to disturb my fellow campers hence I find a spot far away from others. The lake has a ramp and parking. Get there early as the parking gets taken up pretty quick. There are no gas stations or stores up there so make sure to take everything you need with you. Please, please, please pack your trash out if you don't camp in the camp ground. There is trail head parking on the east side of the lake. The trail head has parking and bear boxes. One of the trails goes over the ridge to Lake Eleanor in Yosemite. Not too many trails to access the lake. There is an island on the lake too accessible by boat or swimming. The fishing is great! Last year, I was up there at the beginning of August and the water temp was about 70 degrees!! It was wonderful.

Just visited CG, spacious sites. Unsure of previous reviews, but found our site very large and roomy. Camphost was friendly and kept place as clean as possible, considering no indoor plumbings. Kayaks are available from host to visit lake, on donation basis, and host will drop them off at lake. The drive up was heart-breaking after the 2014 North Rim fire, but CG was not touched.

I was just there yesterday, and the campgrounds is open, but there is no water system, due to the drought. BRING YOUR OWN WATER!!! Other than that, the fire missed the campground, and yes, the sites are large and beautiful. Come and be mellow!

I went in mid august 2015 and due to the drought there was no water, however i knew before coming so i brought my own supply. The road to get there is pretty crazy, lots of turns for 23 miles. I'm giving five stars because the camping is really nice, nice big trees, we were at #10 and it was nicely isolated. The campground host was amazing. His name is Tom. He was bending backwards for us and making sure people are happy. What an amazing guy. Thanks Tom!

Unfortunately this campground seems to be closed due to the fire of 2013 according to their website and is not opening again till April 2015, As I recall the fire never actually hit the campground but burned all around it. Have spent the last 15 years going here with the family. The grounds are clean and the sites are large and not stacked up on each other giving you lots of room to spread out. There is fresh water located through out the grounds and in front of each bathroom. The bathrooms are cement structures but are not flush so it can smell in there later in the day but nothing a can of Lysol can't solve and they do clean them every morning and most of the time the people staying in the camp are conscious of keeping them clean. Cherry Lake is the clearest lake I have ever seen and we take our 19 ft in/out board boat on it with no problems. The water is so clean that we use biodegradable soap and bath in it and it is very warm due to it being surrounded by large granite outcroppings acting like solar heaters. The downside is on weekends you get a lot of rife rafe from the Modesto area and they are loud and annoying at times so I usually always plan my trips Monday-Friday. They do allow trailers but nothing over 25ft as the road in the camp is narrow and there are some tight turns to make. The parking is ample and I can usually back my boat into the site and leave it attached to my truck and be clear of the road.
