@ reno: electrical repairs are some of the most complex and confusing repairs that exist in automobiles. They were probably doing the smart thing, balancing starting a relationship with a customer long term, while at the same time, doing the basic smart things necessary to get the customer back on the road, the vehicle running, and permitting them to ultimately find out what your issue was electrically. Automobile electrics are so sophisticated, specialty shops exist for them. I've been bringing my truck to Boris, Dan John and Zhu for five years now. They have kept my truck with almost 250,000 miles on it running problem free all that time. I worked in the convenience store adjacent to their shop in Mill Valley for a couple years, and that is how I got to know them. I realized how lucky I was to have a good mechanic in them when the Porsche, BMW and other imported car mechanics were coming to them for advice, and he was able to charge as competitive hourly rates as the specialty high end shops were to their rich customers, and be worth it. Because he knew me and I worked next door, he even took payments from me when I was making 11 bucks an hour because a, I could not afford any more, and b, he was charging a fair price for quality work. The reason upscale car repairs are so expensive is because a quart of oil for a BMW is 25 bucks a quart, not the five or six we would pay to put in our GM products. He's got a great team, that can fix anything, will give you the straight word, are not the compromising types, so if you are the 'fix it as cheaply as it can be done' type of shop, they like to fix it right, fix it well the first time, and that costs more at the time, but less over the long haul, because the cheap shop you will go to over and over and over because the parts aren't quality, they are cheap, the expertise is variable, whereas this is a solid team that has been working together for years and years, and can do anything, even resurrect my old beat minivan and keep it purring. If you are the kind of consumer who will recognize that in the car business aftermarket, there is only so much you can do because parts do wear and machines need care, and understand a few bucks better than cheap will mean more savings down the road because you are in less often, you'll listen to Boris and Danny and realize I am telling you, they are the real deal, and too experienced and easygoing for BS or the cheap bandaid mentality solution so many feel is the standard to maintain. I wouldn't take my truck anywhere else given the experience I have had with the dark side of the mechanics business. You shouldn't either.
