After my parent's insurance changed, we switched to these providers. I went to therapy and saw Dr. Dewdney for medications. I took an unofficial online personality quiz and told him the results. He used it in his diagnosis. He never spent more than 15 minutes with me after the initial session and thought he knew everything. He wrote me off as a bad kid from the very beginning and laughed at my dreams of being a doctor. I was put on a medication that gave me tremors that may become permanent and he refused to take me off the medication. His solution to any side effects of medications was to prescribe more medication. The reason I was in therapy was because I felt trapped and hopeless because of my dad's abusive and authoritarian parenting style. I tried committing suicide several times in my teenage years, especially after we started going here. Dr. Dewdney told my parents that I was manipulating them. He imposed more strict rules including one were I was not allowed to be around males at all. Most of my friends were guys so I felt even more isolated and trapped. After I got worse, I was sent to Orchard Place. The staff repeatedly told me I didn't deserve to be there and could not understand why Dr. Dewdney would not release me. I repeatedly requested to see a different psychiatrist and was denied by Dr. Dewdney. My dad offhandedly mentioned that he would like Dr. Dewdney's opinion on where I should go to college and I laughed at this to Dr. Dewdney who said that was a great idea. I was forced to go to DMACC for a year because Dr. Dewdney thought I should stay at home in case I had any more problems. Until I gained my independence from my parents financially, I did continue to have problems because my dad still had leverage over me. The therapists at this office are no better. Family therapy was predominantly my dad complaining about what he wanted from me and then therapist trying to convince me to do his bidding. I had a therapist tell me I was hopeless and would never change because she was obsessed with me becoming more assertive and thought I wasn't working hard enough when there was no good way to document my progress. I am currently in college and will graduate in Spring 2017. I have a GPA above a 3.5 and everyone I've worked with in school believes I will have no problem attending medical school. I am in a healthy relationship and have built a close bond with my mother. I am no longer on any medication for mental conditions and I am not in therapy. I do not hurt myself and I have not tried to commit suicide in years. Everyone describes me as having bubbly personality. I am a role model and a volunteer in the community. None of this can be attributed to Dr. Dewdney or the therapist that work with him. My dad still believes I am a terrible child and I try to avoid him.
