The other day I had Clayton’s Pots for the first time. I had got their Oxtail Dinner w/ Rice and Peas, A side of Mac n Cheese, and their Banana Pudding. The Oxtails were decent in flavor, pretty middling to be honest. The Mac n Cheese had some kind of spices in them, did not like the Mac at all. The only reason I ranked the meal a 4/5 and not lower was because their Banana Pudding was PHENOMENAL! Honestly some of the best Banana Pudding I’ve ever had. Maybe their other menu items are a little better, but if you’re in Irvington and want some bomb Banana Pudding def check this place out!!!
Food is excellent! Had the opportunity to try most of the menu. I would recommend the Jerk Chicken Sandwich with Fries and Steam Fish snapper with steamed vegetables, rice plus peppers. Food price is reasonable, great customer service, and quick service. Food was ready in 10-25min. Will definitely recommend and I will come back again.Dine in: YesOutdoor seating: NoTakeout: YesDelivery: YesCurbside pickup: Yes
I had Clayton cater the jerk chicken for a potluck at my job, the chicken was finished before the potluck started. The food was so good that I had them cater for my family for Thanksgiving. The prices are reasonable and the food is awesome!!!! Don't hesitate to eat from Clayton's Pots, real homestyle cooking!!
The customer service is terrible. Short, terse, aggravated responses from the staff.. And the prices fluctuate according to their mood. My husband and I can order the exact same plate, the exact same size and I guarantee you one of us will pay $11.00 while the other will be charged $22.00 Worst of all, the macaroni and cheese is loose !
Their beef stew is rocking, I can't lie I've only try two things and I recommend the beef stew, overall! Mac and was the worst I've ever had my 18 yr old need too be up in there because their Mac and cheese I swear I was so disappointed. But their beef stew I will give props when due is the best I've ever tasted!
The food here is amazing! I had the oxtail and rice and peas. The flavors just burst in your mouth! The peas in particular were very flavorful. The oxtails were really tender. The prices are reasonable for the portion size. Speaking of the portions...they give you a LOT of food! Was actually enough for 2 meals for me. Could've been 3, but I got greedy. Lol. Truly worth it though. Also, Roger, the owner, is a very personable guy. He does a lot of the cooking himself, but he also does not mind meeting and chatting with the customers. So if you're going to be in or around the Newark/Irvington area and you're looking for authentic Caribbean food, I would recommend Clayton's Pots as your top choice. 5 stars
My husband and I visited this restaurant twice. The first time was awesome which made me come back the second time but this time was horrible, the food was tasteless, the rice was so mushy I was forced to return the food, I wasn't asking for a refund just and fresh batch of food, thinking maybe I bought it to late. The food should be consistently fresh from opening till closing. I requested to speak to the manger and or owner and was told he couldn't put me in contact with him or her. The customer service my husband received was deplorable. I'd never give my money to an establishment who doesn't respect it's customers! Totally ruined dinner for my family so disappointing.
My first visit I fell in love with the chicken roti. Huge portion, good flavor, great cakes, super nice owner. This second trip I came specifically for the chicken roti and was hugely disappointed. Portion was smaller, food was bland, roti burnt in some spots. We all have off days so perhaps it will be better next time. And lord have mercy bless the lady working in there today. 100 plus degrees outside and they didn't have any air
The worst oxtail meal I’ve ever had! The rice tasted spoiled, the mac&cheese was overcooked to a mash potatoes/melt in your mouth texture and the oxtails tasted like tap water. And since i asked for extra gravy everything tasted like tap water!!! I did eat the oxtails solely and threw everything else out! The portion of oxtails was definitely fair for price, but the meal was horrible tasting and I want my $15 back .
I came to pick up a doordash order, disgustingly rude staff. Yelled at me for something that I had nothing to do with. Never coming back ever again
