Not bad for the price, housekeeping needs to be a little bit more thorough though, my room had a pair of crusty socks from the person who stayed there before me. But other than that not bad and I would stay there again

I recently booked a hotel reservation at Clinton Manor in Union, NJ. First of all we had just gotten off of an 11 hour flight and was looking for a decent hotel, nothing spectacular, to sleep for a few hours before the connecting flight early the next morning. Somehow Clinton Manor came up for $130. At this rate I would have atleast expected the trash cans not have garbage in them from the previous 'guests'. We pulled up it was in a very unsafe neighborhood our driver even asked if we were sure we wanted to stay there, it reeked of cigarettes, mold and mildew, the reservation wasn't received by the time we arrived to check in and the hotel 'concierge' was less than helpful nor pleasant. When we finally got a hotel key we were pointed in the general direction of our room (there were multiple buildings) when we found our building I couldn't believe that this place was still legally allowed to operate. It was by far the worst smelling of smoke and mildew, the carpets were rippling clearly from water damage that was not properly assessed, and you could see mold growing on the walls and air handling vents. We got up to the room, not expecting any better and was met with much worse in fact. The floors were also rippling from water damage, holes in the walls and ceiling, strong mildew and smoke smell, thick dust covering everything, there was trash still left in every waste container as well as directly on top of the TV unit, cigar guts were on the bathroom floor and in the toilet, soap that was already used was in the tub, the toilet would not flush and the sheets on the beds were clearly not changed let alone even made when we walked in the door. My husband and I attempted to tough it out for the few hours just to get a little bit of rest but it was impossible because we felt like things were crawling on us and then the same front desk 'concierge' came banging on our door at 1 am to see if anyone was in our room, we ultimately decided to leave early to sleep in the airport terminal until we were able to access our gate because we were concerned for our health and safety. I am not at all a picky person when it comes to hotel stays, I have been in hundreds of hotels under 3 stars with out a single issue or complaint and I CAN NOT believe this hotel is listed on any site and if I could give it negative stars I would. The health department, mold specialist and industrial hygienist should be called to test the air quality because I'm sure it would fail. It is unfathomable how disgusting this place is, it was straight out of a horror movie and I want to burn the clothes I was wearing because I don't think I can ever get them clean again. This 'hotel' should be shut down and even better, demolished.
