This agency builds up false hope in people and when those people need help most this agency refuses them service, Which leaves them alone to DIE!!! The people there cannot be trusted, they lie and manipulate their clients. They cause more harm then good. If you are looking for Mental Health Help go somewhere else! They will hurt you and get founding doing so. Do not support them.

I was referred to the Queens Street location. When I went there I was expecting to finally getting the support and help I need, after being tossed around for the past two months. Instead got the complete exact opposite NOTHING! Kept telling me I needed a counsellor or psychiatrist You should be ashamed of yourselves. The only time you help is if someone says I'm going to kill myself, or if the person is on government assistance. The Working class get screwed as always!!!

I had a very positive experience here. I was seen almost immediately by a very caring and attentive Nurse. She listened to me for over 3hrs and the staff's support extended past four. I never felt rushed and they all worked collectively to help me. They talked me down and provided me with tangible resources, as well as a care plan. They were also candid about the weaknesses in the system, and helped me to prepare for the unavoidable wait times that these programs have. Despite this, they assured me of certain resources to help me while I wait. I am thankful for this resource!

CMHA London is a bloated bureaucracy that is geared to obtain funding for and serve the employees more than the clients. The groups seem to be geared at a kindergarten level. Quasi spiritual new age info is presented by patronizing staff. Their intentions may be good but they don't seem to comprehend what is really going on. I find the groups that I have participated in were often demoralizing and degrading, providing the exact opposite to their intended results. London CMHA has yet to embrace the peer support model that many CMHA offices in other cities have. It is proven that training peers to help peers helps individuals to gain a sense of purpose and feel empowered in steering their own recovery. It also saves money. Peers who facilitate groups, provide counselling or design programs can often relate more effectively to others going through similar issues. Peer support models can lead to full time or contract work in the helping field or opportunities for entrepreneurship and other paid work. Taking part directly in designing your own recovery through peer support in combination with relevant professional help is a model that is being implemented elsewhere but seems slow to catch on in London. Bricks and mortar services like housing are weak. I was told that it would take 2 to 3 yrs to secure something safe, affordable and secure. I'm still waiting after five years. I lived in a local CMHA group home, it had recurring bed bug issues and a filthy fridge full of expired food. Intoxicated individuals would smoke in the house. The ample staff did minimal work to address these potentially dangerous health and safety issues. Most of the time they were too busy socializing in the office. The personal support worker program is being phased out. This is a source of anxiety going forward. I understand there are new walk in crisis centers that offer counselling and beds. I have no experience with this program but it sounds like it might take pressure off hospitals. Other areas that offer this type of service have been successful in reducing hospitalization. I'm glad the CMHA is there but the way it's being run in London is dysfunctional. Locals may not notice but people who have experience with the CMHA outside London will, there are a different set values in play here. CMHA London needs to undertake major rethinking of its priorities. Instead of existing to serve employees, more emphasis should be placed on providing clients with dignified and useful services. There is a lot of room for improvement. I hope your experiences with this organization are more positive than mine have been.
