Cody Park Train Display consist of two trains from awhile back. The spot is free and a wonderful history lesson regarding trains (duh!!!), logistics, transportation, local (Nebraskan) folklore and a bunch of other stuff. This is the only bright spot in North Platte, NE(braska). If travelling by, Cody Park has plenty parking, nice scemery, sucky locals, and a great spot to exercise or rest or drop deuces aka drop off the obamas. I dont know much bout trains and the one on display (look at pic) is the Union-Pac Challenger 3900. The diesel motor is gigantic!!! This sucka looks powerful enough to haul today's megaloaded freight. The inside is restored nicely with newer paint. The usps section shows all of the major towns in Nebraska during the 60s, as in 1860s. Believe me you, this towns are puny!!! Most of em are the sizes of various Los Angeles burroughs... Safe travelings.

Well kept. Fantastic park around the area. Lakes. Ball fields. Can go in both locomotives, mail cars and caboose.

An excellent chance see railroad history, the UP 3977 Challenger 4-6-6-4 is one of two left and the cab is available to the public. The 6922 DD40X diesel is an awesome sight and the cab is also open to the public. The original Hershey depot is full of history, as are the passenger cars/caboose being pulled by the two-tone gray challenger steam locomotive. The 3977 was built in June of 1943 - stop and visit us in North Platte Nebraska.

A great place to learn and teach your kids about steam or oil engine. It's free and you can see a close up of the engineer's control. This is no tourist trap, but unfortunately someone broke one of the gages inside. That's why we end up paying for every thing, in order to compensate the expenses of those irresponsible people.
