We are on our 4th year of Colorado Connections Academy and, until now, we've loved it. The ability to choose our own schedule was great. This year, however, they apparently made changes to the policies and I can't find anywhere where we were notified and, when I tried to get it straightened out, the quality of communication is at an all time low. The school sells itself as being flexible and allowing the students to work on their own schedule, etc within hard start and end date that are set by a computerized calendar called the "scheduler". When you tell it what classes you want to do on certain dates, it puts them into your schedule UNLESS you choose dates before or after the start and end date. If that happens, it give a huge red warning telling you the class MUST be completed by a certain date - for this semester, that date is 1/7 (the last date of the winter break) just as it has for the previous 3 years we've been enrolled. However, certain teachers and other members of the administration are telling the students that they have to be done 2 weeks before that at the "semester end" date which has never been the policy and now the students who took advantage of the flex-time vacation scheduling are screwed unless their parent know to call and request an extension. How is that fair to the families who don't know its an option? I've made multiple attempts at clearing it up: 2 emails to the teacher say NOPE! The 22 is IT! Then a complaint to the Head Principal resulted in "Of course he has until 1/7" and a promise to ensure that the teachers knew the correct response. Several days later I get another email from the teacher (to all students) MUST FINISH BY 12/22! which I forwarded to the principal who apparently forwarded it to the middle school principal who sends a confusing response but, after several emails, says she will ensure that teachers are telling students the right date. Then I get a personal email from the teacher telling me that she isn't going to change what she's doing. What happened to this school???

This school is a great idea. Online school works for me, as I can do it from wherever I go. Most of the curriculum is pretty self explanatory, and the teachers can help you. However, the teachers are so overworked and have so many students that it takes a few days or weeks to hear back. Also, I tried to transfer here from a different school, and they wouldn't accept most of my credits, making me have to do an extra year of high school and repeat many of my classes, wasting my time and keeping me from taking my education further on time. The counselor I had personally insulted me and continually disregarded my intelligence. She did not plan ahead, and was a pain to work with. My math teacher was rude, impossible to get on the phone, and acted annoyed when I came to her asking for explanations. It is great if you can work on your own and do not need any help whatsoever, but if you need any staff or teachers, you might run into issues.

Glad I took all 3 of my kids out of public school and put them in home school. At first it was a bit rocky but since we have gotten a routine things are flowing normal again!

This school doesn't seem to know how its online program works. I called to request detailed information regarding which curriculum content it uses, as most Colorado virtual schools subscribe to a specific program or platform for all of its curriculum. The customer service rep not only didn't know what they use, she argued with me about the whole concept of how the virtual schools partner with pre-developed curriculum providers. And she STILL didn't know what curriculum they use. Compare that to Colorado Virtual Academy - where the staff can tell me what learning platforms they use, which languages they can study, the choices between semester and quarter system, and even the details of their PE classes - and there is no comparison. CoVA wins hands down. If the people selling the programs don't have enough education to answer the most basic questions about an online school, i.e, what content are you teaching my child, I think that's a pretty telling sign about the quality of their program.

I graduated from this school in 2012. I don't know if things have changed since then...but my experience was very good. The teachers were great and I felt my education was more enriched than when I went to a classic public school. Sad to see so many poor reviews.
