We have never seen a more artistically creative or beautiful memorial garden before. There's a chronological timeline of events carved into the brick walkway. The sculptures are breathtaking. There's automated historical accounts at various spots throughout the path. It is stroller, walker and wheelchair accessible. There's a pavilion with picnic tables and restrooms on site. Handicap parking is available. It was truly incredible. You could take a simple walk or spend much more time and read the history as well as visually enjoying it, too!! We are so glad we stopped at this completely beautiful nature/historical site.
I always love Veterans Memorials. Without Them We would not have what We have today, FREEDOM! Thanks to all that served and gave all They could. I love the brick time-line that is so detailed from 1896 to 2012. I notice something new every time I walk this beautiful park.
This is a lovely place to walk around and revisit some of our history but don't go once it starts getting dark, the majority of the lighting throughout the memorial was burned out 74 estimated and attempts to contact management to request that the burned out lights be replaced, have gone without return calls.
A beautiful park, tastefully done with memorials to WWI, WWII, the Korean War, Vietnam, Desert Storm and more. Each conflict has its own portion of the memorial, with parts and pieces related to that conflict. There are two paths at the memorial. One goes around the perimeter and the other through the memorial. The one through hits all conflicts while the outer path goes around the ponds. Bricks on the paths provide information on the conflicts, starting with 1896 and going until today. Each conflict has bricks with names of local veterans. The entrance to the memorial also has bames of local veterans. You can buy a brick to add to the memorial with the names of veterans too. There is a pavilion for events. The pavilion provides overhead cover, picnic tables and bathrooms. The pavilion is well maintained too. Parking is ample and accessed from Superior Avenue.
Very beautiful, and relaxing environment. So peaceful...and informative.
Impressive sculptures, very moving tribute to veterans. Well-maintained grounds in the summer. Some of the sculptures were a bit graphic and intense to convey the sacrifices of war. Overall I was impressed with the quality of the memorial-worth seeing if you are in the area or taking a little day trip.
Being a vet myself, I support anything military, and when I was growing up before moving to Iowa this memorial was still in the works. To get to visit it finally finished with my son and best friend, made my whole day 4X better since I got a flat tire right after pulling in the park across the street right afterwards . Definitely recommend this as a stop if you're in the area! It's beautiful!
This is a great place to stop and pay your respects. It is well planned with you going from the first World War up to current events. The statues and memorials are insightful. There are also numerous recordings to learn about certain spots
It is very expansive and well done. It is easy to see from the road. If you miss the turn right after the Franciscan Health Center going south on Calumet turn around and go back. No easy 'round the block access if you continue.
This place is really cool man!
