July, 2013: We just enjoyed another weekend stopover at Congregation Beth El in Old Orchard Beach, ME. This small gem of a shul, lovingly run by brothers Eber and Neil Weinstein, continues to offer a home for Jewish services for more than 100 years. The services are traditional, a separate men's and women's section are provided, but being a summer beach resort community, the dress code is relaxed (no bathing suits, however). There is no Rabbi, so the brothers run the services with the help of volunteers. For the Sabbath observant traveler, or just the curious, this is a vacation stop well worth making. Open Friday night, Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon, Holidays, and other times. Although Old Orchard Beach used to be a destination for Kosher travelers, there are currently no kosher establishments in town.
