Story

Welcome to Congregation Sons of Israel located in Chambersburg, PA. We have over 160 years of Jewish tradition in Franklin County, PA, and welcome Jews of all denominations. Our members include people raised in Reform, Conservative, Reconstructionist and Orthodox households as well as interfaith couples and Jews-by-choice. As such, we are a warm, caring community committed to making our Judaism meaningful, spiritual, and joyous. We are dedicated to the tenets of Judaism: the worship of God, tikkun haolam and working to better the world around us, and lifelong Jewish learning. We strive to be inclusive and to honor the ideals of an ever-changing and growing Liberal Judaism.

Please join us for Shabbat services every Friday evening at 7 pm. Torah study is held Saturday mornings at 10 am when the Rabbi is in attendance.

We proudly host Rabbi Robert Green and work closely with him to continue the great tradition of the synagogue.

Mission

We are still the only congregation in Franklin, Fulton, Adams and southern Cumberland counties in South Central Pennsylvania. As such, we are non-affiliated with any specific movement, but rather try to meet the needs of all Jews in the area. We do keep our kitchen kosher (dairy) to make sure those who keep kashrut will be welcome in our building.
