Arrived on a Wednesday mid- morning and found just 3 people waiting. My documents were in order and I was processed quickly and very politely. I rate their service far superior to what I would get in a Canadian government office. My guess is that the haters on here didn't do their homework to provide the right documents. Dress well, speak kindly and politely and you will be treated in like manner.

I do not understand the negative reviews of this service. I made an appointment for service this morning 10 am. Got there at 9:35 am and got a ticket number. My number was called shortly after 10 am and submitted my two applications. Clerk said I had to give them a full page photocopy of my passport instead of the copy I had made on half-page. Reception clerk made copy for 25 cents. Clerk processed the two applications and I was out of there by 10:10 am! Obviously disgruntled reviewers did not read document requirements spelled out very clearly on the service website. For tourist visas, give copies of travel info to and from China and hotels, etc. for your duration of stay. Visa photo do not have to be "official" passport photos as long as they are the proper size. Very detailed specs of photos were on their website. I found all the staff at the center very pleasant and efficient so I do not understand reviews saying they are rude and unfriendly. I had to get India visas last month and the whole process was a horrible experience. I got to the service in Surrey at 11:30 am and did not get out of the dingy, crowded, and busy office until 3:45 pm. I elected to pay $30 each to get visa couriered back as I did not want to repeat the process to pick-up in person. Visa received after 7 days compared to China visa which will be ready to pickup in 3 days. Moreover, China tourist visa are good for multiple entries for the lesser of passport expiry date or for 10 years if you have a new 10 years Canadian passport. 5 star rating for China visa service center!!!

Jeez I don't get all the hate about this place. Every time I've gone here, I make an appt online, wait no more than 10 mins, and am approved with 5 mins. Do not just walk in-- you could wait for hours. Book a time online a week in advance, and you jump to the front of the line. Do your research before going in to apply for your visa, and make sure you bring all the correct documentation and photocopies. Check the actual consulate's website, not the visa centre's site, as their rules change arbitrarily.

Very homie experience, everything is done just as it is back to China. Especially the moment when a woman at the desk shouted my name out loud, really made me feel like I am in my home country.

This consulate is a joke. I've been there twice, and twice I've been told I need additional information. Not all of the visa and documentary requirements are posted on their website. For such a backwards country, they sure require a ridiculous amount of paperwork. Be expected to bring a current passport, previous passport, list of all countries visited since who knows when, hotel bookings, and flight itinerary just to start. If you're missing any of that, you may have to type a statement or some BS oath confirming a variety of information. After you come back for your next visit they will request additional items from you. I will have to come back for a third visit, which I wouldn't be surprised if they request a copy of my family tree and blood samples. Worst service ever!
