"Named D.C.'s top French restaurant of 2023 Washingtonian magazine, Chef Cedric opened Convivial in November 2015 to accolades and rave reviews. The menu has evolved to be reminiscent of the bistro fare found on the streets of the French towns in which Cedric grew up."

This is my absolutely favorite brunch spot! The food is consistently excellent and really authentic. Chef Cedric makes hands down the BEST quiche I’ve ever had! We have also had dinners for birthday celebrations and every dish has been outstanding. The servers are exceptional and professional. The whole team seems to be enjoying themselves! I cannot recommend more highly!
All 3 courses were amazing. Best French onion soup I’ve ever had. Steak frites was cooked perfectly. I would stab someone if they took my sticky toffee pudding.Food: 5/5
My parents and I are frequent customers there, so we definitely love the food. Today, I'm sharing my personal experience at yesterday's family outing to Convivial on Happy Hour. Good price reductions. The single patty cheeseburger is to DIE for. And as always, I got one of my top 2 desserts there: profiteroles! Not too crowded on Thursdays during rush hour time. And fun bonus: they had some Elvis Presley songs in the background that day. Parking: Garage available right by the restaurant. Wheelchair accessibility: Ground level restaurant. Flat surfaces. No staircases.
While we found our appetizers and entrees uninspired, dessert was a revelation and the entire experience was buffered by superb service and a warm atmosphere. I started with the French onion soup and sadly it fell into a pattern of lackluster versions of this dish in the DC area. It simply lacked flavor. My friend's burrata was also quite middling. My main dish was their popular fried coq au vin boneless chicken thigh fried and glassed in a coq au vin sauce, crushed potato, vegetables and it was marginally better, aided by a little salt but still pretty forgettable. My friend seemed to enjoy the gnocchi carrot and ginger purée, asparagus, peas, scallion, oyster mushroom, charred vegetable demi-glace, kale, pumpkin seeds, parmesan a bit more, but wasn't enthusiastic about it either. Dessert was the standout, I loved the Opera cake chocolate cake, chocolat crémeux, milk chocolate mousse, coffee chantilly cream. It was perfectly sweet, with an excellent texture in each bite, and each element stood out while combining for a superb creation. Yum. Cocktails were fine but not remarkable either. Maybe an off night but not compelling enough to return, except maybe for dessert.
Some of the menu options were better than others. I REALLY liked the Beef bourguignon. We had some pates which were interesting. Desert had nice presentation. Service was amazing and the drinks were good.Food: 4/5
Beautiful display of brunch in the pic here. I had oeufs poches, printaniers with green veggies and it was delish! I went with 3 others and while we were in deep conversation, the servers were good, they were unobtrusive and attentive and the experience all around was a pleasure. I would highly recommend Convivial, the restaurant feel was French with a British twist.
Delicious French bistro. Very solid 2 or 3 course prix fix menus. The fries are amazing. The profiteroles are scrumptious.Food: 5/5
Such a wonderful spot for dinner. The food is fresh and excellent, with prompt service. You're truly spoiled for choice with the 2-3 course menu. The wait staff were attentive and friendly, acknowledging a special occasion with congratulations, special recommendations, and a little message on our dessert. Left feeling full and for the quality of the food, at a fair price too.
This spot was incredible for Sunday brunch with friends! We had the almond croissant as a table app - delicious. Try it. Then we all got the crepes which were amazing. Good service and lovely ambience.Food: 5/5
I thought that for the price, the food and service were very good. I appreciated that they were able to accommodate a walk-in for weekend brunch. The hostess was very polite and the servers were very attentive. The restaurant was very clean, including the bathrooms which were very nice compared to a lot of restaurants in DC. For a restaurant I had not heard of prior to visiting, I was pleasantly surprised!
