It’s a perfect place to just have fun and take your kids.
Horrible!!!! They called me last week on Friday right before the spring break camp started on Monday to tell me the camp has been cancel. The girl said we will refund the money. I am still waiting on the refund. I called today and they told me I needed to find out a form but the rude person that called on Friday fail to inform me I needed to stop by the office to fill out a form. So unprofessional park and how they handle their camps. I will NEVER go back!!!!
Great Location. Lots of Activities for the family. Well run facility. Carlos is top notch. Jerry runs great sports programs for kids and adults.
At the end of WWII a new era of prosperity was ushered into Coral Gables. Veterans coming home from the war flocked to Florida to recuperate in the warm climate. This spurned new construction and development. Around this time a group of civic leaders wanted to honor the men and women who served in WWII. They gathered 22 civic organizations together and incorporated an organization named The Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center Association. Lots on Andalusia Avenue were purchased and donated, and obtained through eminent domain for the project. The youth center opened on December 7,1945, Pearl Harbor Day. It had a baseball field, dance patio, and a small building for summer recreation. Sports and classes were offered for the local teenagers. The original youth center operated for 11 years but in 1955 the city realized that they had outgrown it. The city sold the three acre property and purchased five acres from the University of Miami. A youth center designed by architects Watson and Deutschman was dedicated on December 7, 1956. It contained a curved memorial wall with the names of 1,288 men and women who served in WWII. A star marked the 30 names of those killed in action. The new center operated as a youth and community center for the Coral Gables community. If Coral Gables ever decides to stop funding youth programs at the center it will revert back to the association. On April 19, 1997, the city opened a remodeled War Memorial Youth Center. A 13,244 square foot gymnasium was added along with a fitness center, outdoor lighted basketball courts, roller hockey rink, auditorium, dance studio, child care room, classrooms, landscaping, and expanded parking. A new war memorial garden was also added. Today the Youth Center serves a memorial to the veterans of WWII and to the civic minded people of Coral Gables who pulled together to create a place for the youth of the city. They offer a wide range of programs, activities, camps and special events throughout the year to engage the young people of Coral Gables. You can become a member of the the center which entitles you to child care, use of the fitness center, and reduced fees for programs. What a great resource for the community to have.
This park closes at 8:55 not 10pm like it says in the website and has nothing to do with Covid it’s because the workers just want to go home. Tax payer money going down the drain, let us use the park!!!! we’ll write a formal complaint to the city of Coral gables.
If it was possible I would give this park 0 stars. The programs they run are great and you will always see great reviews for them. But the park's main job is to give a place to play for the community of coral gables. In this I have never seen a park fail more than them. If they don't make money then there is a high probability of being kicked off the field. Although that they know that they are the only park in gables they will find a way to get rid off you. During the summers it's closed against all reason so that it could recuperate for all the sports that generate money for the "park". The administration who get their money from the community don't care about the community and will kick off people from gables to get money from people of other communities. They never turn on the lights unless they generate money there as well. In summary the people who run this park are traitorous scum with fat wallets and never listen to their own mission statement of giving a place for kids to play in gables. Go to UM. Much better
Horrible!!! They provide you incorrect information over the phone. They have the rudest customer service including the management. Long story short I’m trying to throw my son‘s second birthday party here at one of the re-creation centers/parks. After calling and verifying all the information to the questions that I provided to one of the representative. I Drove all the way from Sunny Isles down to Coral Gables just for them to tell me that they need seven days prior to scheduling or requesting any events. Please keep in mind that today would’ve made seven days. Manager was disgusting when even let us explain our side of the story very nonchalant didn’t care that we drove or took our time to drive all the way from Sunny Isles to Coral Gables. Disgusting I do not recommend anyone to have the children attend this facility or any type of events.
If I could give it 0 stars I would. We are members and after months of having membership I get told by rude young staff that my son who is a member with us can not attend the gym because of age. Gym staff is rude. Supervior doesn't train or inform staff correctly and then months later I have to be scolded in a very rude manner because they don't know what they are doing. It is 100% incompetence. If you can avoid this place. Never have a experienced such unprofessional place. Why did you provide me membership for him if you have an age rule. The front desk explained that the supervisor made the rule and never informed them about the new rule. Well how is that my problem or my fault, staff should be nicer when they are working with the public and obviously the supervisor show be fired, he doesn't know what he's doing.
The gym is good but there is no maintenance in the showers.Showers are fealthy of privates hair, wet toilette paper.its obvious that there is nobody cleaning the floors in the lockers and showers as they appear to be dirty from the very early hours until late. Therefore , they don’t get clean. They shall be fined.
The phone is rarely answered. Often it has a busy signal. You have to go in person to get anything done. I asked for a refund in May for classes we withdrew from and they lost the paper work for the refund. I was given the run-a-round until the paper work was finally located. It is almost October and I still have not received a refund after multiple times of being told the checks in the mail. Just feels like it is unprofessionally and poorly run.
