Started working out here as a CrossFit skeptic, but I'd have to say that after a few months I've totally changed my opinion. A large part of my change of heart probably has to do with the instructors, who immediately made me feel more comfortable with high volume lifts by providing feedback and scaling workouts as necessary. I have a previous joint injury that bothers me sometimes, and some of the instructors who see me regularly have made a point of suggesting alternative exercises without me having to approach them. The owners are friendly and won't push you to sign a contract if you call asking for more information. Highly recommended.

I dropped in at this place for a week and it was the epitome of everything wrong with CrossFit. The coaches and owner had big egos but they were neither skilled nor supportive. The coaching they offered was lackluster and no one seemed to care or be aware of dangerous body positions. The programming itself was short and not challenging, but the coaches would act as if it was the hardest most difficult workout. No one gets attention unless they're friends of the owners and coaches. The classes seem more like gossip sessions than a serious workout. The space is nice, new, but also very unfinished. Frayed carpeting stood up and raised rubber mats that were not secured seemed dangerous when members were forced to run inside. It also looked as if no one bothered cleaning the place as the rubber mats had the fine aroma of well-aged body odor and the pull-up bars had the vintage patina of dried blood mixed with chalk. All the equipment is old and beat up but they scream and cry if a member drops a 10lb weight. The location and boastful reputation was what brought me to this gym. The promise of air conditioning seemed like a good idea for hot california summers, but they never ran it to the point where it was noticeable. The gym was just a hot muggy smelly mess with bad coaches. They get two stars because I was not charged anything for the week I was there because they seemed desperate for members. I tried the other gym across town and found the atmosphere to be more inviting and encouraging.

Crossfit Merced has excellent passionate coaches and a welcoming family like community. They adjust workouts to push you at whatever level of shape you are in so that Crossfit is accessible to everyone. Highly recommend!
