Beautiful campground on northern shore of Lake Champlain. Views of the Champlain Islands of VT are gorgeous. We stayed site 47, late Sept, 2021 in 32 foot travel trailer. Some sites are very sandy 47 was, others on lawn, some with longer rigs could have issues with backing in as they are on 90 degree angles to road, not angled. Nice new style fire rings seem to be on most sites. Can be a bit windy this time of year and down in low 50s at night but the lapping of the waves is lovely. Beach is very well maintained and very wide, water is very shallow for a long way out into the lake making it nice for small children. Bath, Shower and laundry facilities are outstanding-buildings are only a few years old and very well maintained. Our 8 yr old and 6 yr old grandsons loved the playground equipment and riding their bikes all over the campground. We wish they would upgrade sites to better level them and at least have electricity at all sites. Potable water spigot by dump station should be better marked-is just painted white. Dump station is best layout and modern we have seen in 8 years of RV travel. Overall an amazing place, quiet this time of year late Sept lots of vacant sites. Plattsburg, as a state college town offers some great restaurants, shops and boutiques. Love the multi dealer antique shops too. Big box stores not far away one exit down RT 87 if needed for supplies, gear, etc. Norma J's breakfast/lunch place a short way down RT 9 very good but a tad pricey. We do not recommend Gus's Red Hots- we thought it would be a traditional diner menu but it is very limited, not even salads or main courses- just burgers and breakfast. Ferry to VT on Cumberland Head road is great trip to VT. Took our children only 53 minutes door to door to Essex Junction, so perhaps 1 hr to downtown Burlington VT. Easy day trip to Montreal once border issues clear up due to Pandemic/Covid restrictions.
Came for the day to sit by the lake and use the playground for the kids. Saw people camping in tents and campers. Going to return and try this next year. Fee was $7 for the day. Bonus: watching the kite surfers was fun and feeding the sea gulls.
I live in VT but most of the beaches in my area are trashed or filled with seaweed and algae so we decided to hop the ferry and check out this one. It was definitely worth it. Super clean beach and plenty of room. Loved it and will definitely go again.
It is beautiful camping place. The shower place and bathroom are nice as well.
Absolutely beautiful! This spot is so nice if you want to sit in the sand by the lake, have a picnic with friends/family, or even just walk around. There are a bunch of picnic tables all spaced out with grills close by. There is also a pavilion if you want to have a family get together. There’s a great amount of parking and it is easy to get to! Every time I have gone it’s been quiet and relaxing.
I just went for a couple of hours, but the lake view, the children's play area, the beautiful green space all made it feel really nice. The negative is that the bathrooms were already locked for the season even though there were quite a few people here.
Nicest New York State Campground I've been to. Showers are free and spacious. Potable water faucet had a hose bib, making it easy to connect my drinking water hose and fill my camper.
Cumberland bay state park gave us an amazing camping experience. With the exceptional amenities and services provided by the park, they made us feel real comfy. The bathrooms and restrooms were neat and well maintained. Each campsite had area big enough to accommodate utmost two tents and two cars. The beach is an added recreation when you stay here. You need to book well in advance to get a spot and the prices are very cheap. There are a lot of places you can go visit around the area and fun activities you can do. Ausable chasm is one which was great! Loved every bit of our stay here. I highly recommend this place for an amazing camping experience.
Quiet, Felt At Ease. Slept In My Van Friday Oct 4 2019 And Saturday Oct 5 2019. In The Night Time It Surely Gets Cold. Shower Rooms Are Cold But Both Times I Showered The Water Is Just Right Not Extremely Hot, Just Hot. Shower Rooms Are Unisex And For The Handicapped. Restrooms Are Very Clean. Overall I Would Definitely Return To Visit Cumberland Bay State Park. For 2 Nights I Paid 47.00 With Tax Included.
I love this place!!! Staff was friendly and helpful. Ice and wood is available at the front check in area RVs, pop up tents and tents are all available to use here. There's a beach Cumberland lake it's super nice here. If you have pets, you need to bring their updated Rabies vaccine papers. Its required. We just happen to have our readily available. We went 4th of July...it was really busy, but quiet hours started at 10 pm and that was pretty much when everyone was quiet. There's showers and bathrooms, which is nice to have when camping for any length if time.
