Cunard Tavern
"An Eastie favorite, Cunard Tavern draws its inspiration from the rich nautical history of East Boston's Shipyard and the those whose search of the American Dream began when they landed there. Second only to Ellis Island, East Boston was the port of entry for many immigrants in search of opportunity who helped build this great neighborhood.Featuring: late night bar scene, rooftop tropical patio "The Layover" with skyline views, deep whiskey reserves, and rotation of craft beers.Filippo and Philip Frattaroli of Filmark Hospitality Group behind North End restaurants Lucia, Ducali, and Filippo trace their roots to East Boston. They opened Cunard Tavern there in 2017 on the Jeffries Point site of Filippo’s father’s cabinet-making business."

I wanted to love this place as it’s close to home, looks beautiful and the menu sounded super tasty. However, the cocktails were tasteless and the food was subpar. I ordered the burger and it was dry, it has no sauces or anything to make it less dry. Plus the toppings were very few and the burger itself was so burnt, which is not an excuse for a well done burger, I’ve had hundred of well cooked burgers that are not charred. I had a piece that wasn’t as burned and it also tasted like nothing, it had no flavor which was sad. Then the fries were barely done and some of them were a bit raw. And the place wasn’t even crowded to blame it on that, there were maybe 4 other tables. My partner ordered the steak frites. The chimichurri was good but the steak was also tasteless and had big chunks of fat. Will probably return because there aren’t as many options in the neighborhood, but will only order beer and maybe try some other app. Very underwhelming experience for a place with so much potencial and a great menu on paper.
This spot feels a bit lacking in identity. It seems to offer a wide selection of beer, but in reality, it's mostly a handful of IPAs, with the occasional darker beer or sour that might not even be on tap. The food is priced like it's "elevated", but nothing really stands out. Even their basic burgers are a bit pretentious and overpriced. On the plus side, the servers are always prompt and friendly, creating an inviting atmosphere. Still, it’s never my top choice in the area.
Great "local" spot. Great service. Plentiful street parking within two blocks of restaurant. EXTREMELY cold on a cold night. We wore our coats during the meal. Food was excellent, plentiful and reasonably priced. Drinks were reasonably priced. All-female staff was pleasant, engaging, attentive, welcoming. I would definitely return in warmer seasons...
I had a reservation for brunch, we showed up on time and the dining room was full and no table had been reserved for us. Our options were to split up our group or wait over an hour to be seated together. After waiting around 30 minutes we decided to be seated separately which was very disappointing as I had family visiting from out of town. Once seated, we waited about 30 minutes to receive our drinks and over an hour for our food. There was only one waitstaff and maybe a manager? helping to take orders and serve. The bartender appeared prioritize chatting with her friend at the bar over making drinks. Later, when we ordered a second round of drinks just mimosas and coffee it took another 30 minutes to receive and our meal was finished at that time. The food was just okay and one person in our party had egg shell in their meal and another received extremely running eggs and overcooked steak. No one came over to discuss the fact that the restaurant totally messed up our reservation, to apologize, or offer anything to rectify the situation. I have been to this restaurant before and service was slow, but this was a whole other level and truly the worst dining experience I’ve had in years. I will not be back.
We came here because it was in walking distance of Downeast. We were not disappointed. Atmosphere was very hip, groovy for a Friday night. Service was fast. Food was veryyyy tasty. I wish the portions for appetizers were more clear. We got mushroom ravioli not pictured which only came with 2. But the hummus pictured was HUGE! You might want to ask first ‍ Overall, we were so happy with this spot
Went to Cunard Tavern with a few hours to kill before a flight and was honestly disappointed with both the service times and portion sizes. I personally ordered the lobster roll and received a half sandwich smaller than my palm pic attached, and throughout the order time, there were about 3 employees in the front of house. Only one of them was consistently doing work and looked quite frantic working the bar, doing seating, tending to all the tables while the other two would sporadically work the till or pour a drink or two from the bar. I assumed they were on break at first but given the fact that one server was working the bar and all 4 occupied tables, leading to my group waiting about 40 minutes for fish and chips and a lobster roll, I still think someone should have made the decision to temporarily tap in. No shade to the server trying his best, but with the prices, overall service, and portion sizes, I definitely won't be back.
This place is always enjoyable. I wish the food menu were a bit larger, but the drink menu is full bodied, which also means the roof deck bar is a treat. The roof deck can be impossible to get into on a warm summer weekend night, so try the middle of the week or earlier in the evening. Very close to the Tall Ship and the East Boston waterfront, so also accessible by the Pier 6/Eddy/Tall Ship/Eddy Seaport water taxi. Also T adjacent, if you don't want to hazard the tunnels and parking. I should add, not a bad option if dropping off or picking someone up from Logan and could perhaps give you the option of eating and drinking straight thru Rush Hour.
I have eaten here several times in the past and have always had a good experience with fresh hot food and fast service. Today 5/19/24, my friends and I party of 3 had 12:45 reservations. Arrived at 12:41 and we were seated immediately. After looking at the menu and having conversations, we realized no one had come to our table for a long time, at least a half hour. We were able to make eye contact with a server and she finally came over and apologized for the wait, got our orders and then disappeared again.... We had to ask the host where our food was almost over an hour after we arrived. Tables around us turned over 3 times before our meals came out cold. Had we not inquired about where our meals were, they would have absolutely forgotten us completely. Terrible service
Food is good. Service is friendly and quick. Cool atmosphere. Price point seems reasonable for the neighborhood. The hummus trio was delicious and had interesting unique flavors. Our mains were ok, didnt blow out minds but would still come back and try something else.
Return visit for late afternoon dining, and it didn't disappoint. Friendly staff, casual atmosphere, excellent food. Tried the Brussel salad with shrimp and for an appetizer, the tricolor hummus, delicious.Food: 5/5
