Appalling experiences. Two years, $12,000++ spent. Many "one hour" long appointments stretched to 3, even 4 hours. Last month (Feb./15), my simple crown prep appointment was for 11:30 AM. They called and made it 12. Then 12:15. I left the office at 3:45 PM (3.5 hours after I arrived), watching/listening as a dozen or more people were treated as I waited. And worse - when they finally got around to finishing my prep, the anesthetic had worn off. So many issues - equipment that broke during a root canal, appointments that were cancelled AFTER I had arrived, impression lost, crowns that were faulty (one time the poor crown caused my wife months of pain - two follow ups, the dentist said just to wait and "let it settle", saying a root canal may be needed. Finally - a new dentist said - "simple - the crown doesn't fit properly". 8 months of pain relievers, and a new crown did the trick...), a crown that was poorly applied last November causing weeks of pain. It took two visits to get that sorted out (fixed by "wedging the teeth" (OUCH) and removing the extra cement that was not removed initially and then filing the contacts). Another new crown - applied by this office in April 2013 - simply snapped off a year later leaving no choice but to extract the tooth. The excuses varied. Emergency, broken equipment, these things happen, doctor caught in traffic, bad luck, hygienist not there. A year ago when I was at my wits end, the manager and I agreed to "start again, to give it another go. Start new". I was optimistic, but sadly - nothing changed. More excuses, more apologies, more "you are just unlucky - most everyone else is happy...". Although some of these reviews would indicate otherwise. The final straw? After getting two teeth extracted (one at this office that took a whopping 80 awful minutes to remove) I AGONIZED about getting implants or a partial. I decided to go with a partial once the gums healed. Last November, and again in February - I was told I needed to book 4 weeks ahead. The whole process and timing was carefully explained to me (twice, by two dentists). Today I arrived for the first step, and was told that it couldn't be done in the 4.5 weeks I had before leaving for Canada. (The appointment was actually last week - giving ample time - but the office called yet again to change it because the crown that needed to be delivered first was faulty...., so the appointment was rebooked for today.) So I followed their advice, then arrived today to begin the process and was told it couldn't be done. Not enough time, they said. What????? Funny thing? The staff - who seem nice - couldn't understand why I was so frustrated. Yet they often watched me walk around the office for hours, bloody napkin still attached around my neck, reading any magazine I could get my hands on after my Kindle long since died. One day in 2013 was so long a staff member felt so sorry for me that she brought me food. On another note, although not a big deal - both my wife and I agree with other comments - some of the cleanings were rough and painful. I ALWAYS arrived on time, and almost always left significantly later than expected. Odds are that the staff just labeled me as a grouchy old man, but I had a 25 year happy relationship with my past dentist and his staff. (He retired...) Nobody is perfect, dentistry is an imperfect science, things happen in the most efficient of offices, but good grief.... It has been continual and seemingly endless. For the record - I was a practicing veterinarian who did a pile of dentistry and managed a large practice. I would be appalled to hear that any of my clients had anywhere close to these types of experiences. I did my utmost to value their time as much as they valued my time. There were many more issues, but you get the gist. I give up. Now on the lookout for new dentists. Any suggestions in the Palm Desert area? I give up.
