Cypress PD is corrupt, all the way up to the City Council. This is a fact I learned the hard way. Here's a summary of what happened: Background Information: I used to manage a large commercial lighting company based out of Cypress (across the street from the Forest Lawn Morturary on Lincoln Ave.) I had a crew of 19 employees who worked under me. Due to the fact that we were a "lighting company" our work was primarly done at night, when we would be able to install/retrofit lighting fixtures without interfering with our clients employees. That being said: First contact: I was sitting at my desk working when a rookie officer showed up and claimed he was looking for an ex-employee named Brandon. I was polite, helpful and honest with the officer. I explained that Brandon had been fired over a year ago for stealing on the job. The rookie officer claimed he did not believe me. Even though I was stunned by the officer's accusation, I proceeded to assist him by providing Brandon's employee file. I produced pay check stubs and a letter of termination of employment. The rookie officer left. Over the next few months the Cypress police began a pattern of harassment that interfered with my ability to provide service to my clients. From stopping my employees from leaving to job sites with materials, to blocking the entrance to my warehouse door for no legal reasons. The officers went so far as to harass my 76 year old (R.I.P Grandpa) grandfather who had come to have lunch with me. My Grandpa was forced to sit on a very low curb while the police searched through and read each peice of paper in his wallet. Officers Ausmus (sp?) and James Kyle, III were making rude comments about phone numbers in my Grandpa's wallet while he was clearly in pain from having to sit in the position the officers "commanded" him to. On a regular basis I would have Officer Ausmus pull up in front of my business and shine his spotlight in my window blinding me and attempting to intimidate me. All attempts at filing complaints proved to be a pitiful joke. The Lieutenant, Jeff Kepley, was just as bad as the police officers. After 8 months of dealing with this behavior, I decided to do a bit of research and found out that the ex-employee, Brandon, had been in prison the entire time. The police knew that Brandon was incarcerated when they made first contact with me. The rookie officer, "Rodriguez" admitted later that he'd known Brandon was in jail. I went to the City Council and explained that I was being harassed unnecessarily by the police demartment and the police refused to comment. When attempting to obtain the public records of my visit to the City Council I learned that they had violated the "Brown Act" and removed my visit form the public record. The City of Cypress, California is corrupt. Period
