My mom and I were searching for a good restaurant for us to celebrate next month and we came across D’Capos! We read through their reviews and were impressed by the amount of 5 star reviews so we decided to try it out after I got off work. The moment we entered - we were pleasantly greeted by the entire staff. Jerry asked us how we found the restaurant and thanked us for stopping in! We ordered an Italian beef which I felt bad telling him to split one Italian beef and make half dry with hot peppers and one dipped but he was happy to oblige, a lasagna roll, and cannolis! Every single thing we ordered was simply the best. The Italian beef was amazing! They were generous with the hot peppers and meat! The lasagna roll? Out of this world. The sauce was perfect. Super flavorful. Opened it up to see a full amount of delicious ricotta cheese! They gave us a complimentary cheesy bread and let me tell you.. I’ve had so many cheesy breads in my life but nothing was better than theirs! The garlic and seasonings with the crunchiness seriously elevated the entire meal all together. I dipped the bread into my lasagna roll and seriously wanted to order 10 more there everything was AMAZING to say the least! Jerry kept coming out and greeting every customer who walked into with so much warmth and familiarity. He checked on us continuously throughout our meal. He was so proud to show everyone the picture of his beautiful mom that was on the wall and talk about the history. Please do yourself a favor and try D’Capos! You won’t find a better meal with better service. Thank you Jerry and the entire staff for the great experience! I’ll be coming back soon!
Fantastic beef sandwich and cheesy garlic bread! Jerry is the head chef at this masterpiece restaurant. Super friendly with a great sense of humor. Very passionate about the food he serves. I highly recommend you try this place out. Different specials daily and when he runs out it out until the next time so get there early to not Miss out.
This place is located inside a gas station, that alone will deter most people from giving them a shot. All I have to say is, ignore where it's located and go give them a try. They have lots of delicious Italian pasta dishes, sandwiches and desserts at very reasonable prices. The meatball penne pasta, Italian beef combination, Italian cheesy garlic bread and eggplant parmigiana are delicious. I can't wait to come back and try some more items off their menu including Pizza Parking: Plenty of parking in front and on the side of the building. Wheelchair accessibility: A few wheelchair accessible parking spaces in front of building.
5-Stars plus! Some eateries need to be recognized because they have put in their dues year after year serving their customers not only the best food but the best customer experience as well. D'Capo's is that kind of place. My bride loves eggplant parm and she has been told that D'Capo's serves one of the best. Though we don't live in the western suburbs we made the drive from Chicago to see for ourselves. For us, a restaurant is about more than the food. It's about the people who run the place and the overall experience. D'Capo's is the real deal and Jerry the owner also needs to be recognized as an old-school master of his trade. This place serves Italian favorites that are hard to find these days. No fancy yuppie stuff here just traditional great food and even better people. Note I was so impressed with Jerry the owner his hospitality and his restaurant that I wrote the majority of this review before we even tried the food. When we did finally dig into our dinner it did not disappoint. Thank you, Jerry and your entire staff for continuing such a treasured tradition of delivering the best old-school Italian with an unmatched customer experience. We are working on finding excuses to drive to Downers Grove more often.
Update 2/15/24 I’ve probably been here about 5 times now. Each time, the food has been consistent…. well except for this one time, when I had cheese on my beef and sausage combo. The cheese tasted like plastic so I had to throw away the cheese. Sadly, that’s the reason why I don’t add extra cheese on my sandwich anymore. Let’s talk about the prices, I did a quick Google search at other nearby Italian restaurants in the area. D’Capos is in the same range for the same/similar dishes. The only thing I’ll say is I wished there were more than 3 mini cannoli’s for $6 worth. They do have some seating, not a lot. You got a few chairs and you eat at that counter. It’s mostly a takeout place. There’s a vacant building close to the I-355 S ramp. It used to be a Chinese restaurant, next to Dan’s Pizza and Mojo’s. Too bad, D’Capos can’t move there. You got space for people to dine in as well as a spacious parking lot. Right now, the traffic between Belmont and Ogden is horrendous especially when you want to exit. The restaurant in the gas station is a great idea, but I would love to see the restaurant have its own building. -Italian beef with sweet peppers 5/5 - still the best damn Italian beef sandwich I’ve ever had. Beef was very succulent. I ate the whole sandwich and I still looked inside the container to see if I missed anything. -cheezy garlic bread 5/5 - very cheesy. It had a little bit of a cheese pull when taking a bite. The bread was soft and crispy. -penne with vodka sauce 5/5 - fully cooked. Pasta was soft and the vodka sauce had a distinct, robust flavor. Portion size was adequate. -sausage 5/5 - well seasoned and good size. Excellent quality. -mini cannoli’s 4.5/5 - if there were 4 or 5 in here then I would give it a 5. Don’t get me wrong, these are delicious and everyone should try this. It’s about $2 a piece, so either the quantity should improve or the size. Overall. 4.5. Food and service is exceptional. I just took a half point off due to the mini cannoli’s portion and the location. Sorry, that location is a headache with all of that traffic. ———————————————————————————- I finally had the chance of trying out some items and they were all delicious. The 5 star reviews are pretty accurate. Best Italian beef I've ever had in this area, a lot better than Portillo's. Might be just as good as Al's. Italian beef with sweet peppers 5/5 Chicken parmesan sandwich 5/5 Cheesy garlic bread 5/5 I could eat 4 of these for dinner Penne with garlic and olive oil with two meatballs 5/5 I will definitely come back here to try more items. Definitely a hidden gem. They have a few tables to eat inside as well as an atm machine next to the restaurant. The staff were very kind and the food portion was generous.
Went here on my lunch break been in the gas station several times but always when the restaurant was closed for the night. First time trying it. Everything was perfect. The owner and chefs were so friendly and the BEST CHICKEN PARM EVER WITH HOT PEPPERS IVE EVER!!!! Every component of the sandwich was perfect! Definitely recommend this place. It’s inside the powermart gas station definitely come check out this hidden gem!
Jerry is AWESOME!! Me and my best friend stopped in for lunch. He treated us like family! The pizza has the most AMAZING flaky crust. One of the BEST Italian restaurants in the area Not sure how they do it! You will be shocked at how great the food is.Food: 5/5
Absolutely incredible! We we’re hesitant about eating in a gas station, but you could smell the incredible food as soon as you opened the door. We we’re greeted with excitement as soon as we walked in and they had incredible service. Such a fun and unique environment, but the food took the experience over the top. We tried most of the menu and every single thing was marvelous! You can tell that it is all made with fresh, quality ingredients and tastes incredibly authentic. We ended our meal with the amazing mini cannoli that they made fresh to order. We would recommend this place to everyone and will definitely make their carry-out items a regular part of our food rotation! Vegetarian options: Incredible eggplant parmesan and meatless pasta dishes
An absolute delight - this place doesn't even feel like a restaurant, it feels like going to your uncle's house for a home cooked meal. This place is tucked in the corner of a gas station, and easy to miss - not something you want to miss though. Owner Jerry is so welcoming and makes everyone feel like family. The authenticity of the people and food is unrivaled, as the place is true Italian. Chicken parmesan, bruschetta, garlic bread, and meatball sandwiches are all ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and unrivaled in the Western suburban area. Flavors ring with a home cooked feel and authenticity. Overall, this place is just really, really good. Will definitely be coming back!! Can't wait for the next time. Parking: Parking is right in front of the gas station Wheelchair accessibility: There is wheelchair parking and easy access through the main entrance
Stopped in on my way to the airport to grab a snack for the plane and was pleasantly surprised to find this place inside. The owner introduced himself, took my order and even told me about his family’s colorful history while I waited for my food. THEN, he gave me a complimentary sausage to just to hear my critique; it was amazing! So was the Italian beef I ordered. He told me I was about to enjoy the best Italian beef I’ve ever had. I think he was right.
